Hi Guys,

I apologies in advance if I have posted this in the wrong section.

I am new to hackintoshing and am currently undergoing my first project.

I am struggling to install OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 while following the "Simplest Mac OS X Installation Guide". I succeed in getting iBoot to load up at startup, however, when I select the option to install Mac OS X, the machine immediately hangs and does not initiate the install.

I have double checked my BIOS settings:
  • BIOS has been set to ACHI mode
  • Boot Priority is CD-ROM first
  • HPET is set to 64-bit mode

I do own a genuine copy of OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 which I am using as the install DVD.
This is the screen I get on iBoot just before initiating the install:

iboot 3.3.0.jpg

I have typed the following just before initiating install:
  • -v -x PCIRootUID=1 --- does not resolve issue
  • -v -x PCIRootUID=0 --- does not resolve issue
  • -v PCIRootUID=1 --- does not resolve issue
  • -x PCIRootUID=1 --- does not resolve issue
  • -x --- does not resolve issue

If I do not initiate the install in verbose mode, my PC hangs on the following screen:
OS X SL Non Verbose Hang.jpg

And if I do initiate the install in verbose mode, the PC starts generating lines of text of the data it is reading from the DVD and then eventually hangs on this screen:
OS X SL Verbose Mode Hang.jpg

I am at a loss at what it is I am doing wrong here. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
My PC specs are listed as my main system on my profile.

Thanks in advance!

Your main problem is the GTX880 - there is no support for it in SL. Use a supported GPU and it is very easy to install on your hardware.

Thanks for the reply.
I dont have another GPU, nor do I believe the CPU has onboard capabilities.
Is it possible to install OS X 10.6.3 with the graphics card removed from the motherboard, and once installed - to enable the graphics card through DSDT or other software available from this site?

I just looked at the model number of my graphics card again.
It is not a GTX880 rather it is a GTX480, my apologies for the incorrect information.

The GTX480 is fully compatable with OS X 10.6.3 no?

Maybe. IIRC there were some nVidia drives for the 4xx cards, but I can't remember if they worked in SL or just 10.7. Regardless, you will probably need GE=Yes to even jave a chance.

Suggestion - forum search - key words wiki + graphics. This should get a list of GPUs from the SL and Lion days. See what you can find there or just search for your card make and model. Matbe someone else has used it.

X58 + Core i CPUs = no internal gfx - must have a discrete GPU to get video.

I managed to get OS X to install. Before running the install DVD from iBoot i typed in the following boot commands:
-v cpus=1

OS X 10.6.3 has installed successfully; I am now installing the 10.6.8 Combo Upgrade and will then install multibeast.

The machine is running extremely slow however, and graphics acceleration isn't being utilized correctly. Ill see if I can fix this after upgrading to 10.6.8 or higher.

Ill post back here with further developments.

Out of interest, why would I have had to use the boot command cpus=1 to get OS X to start and what does this boot command do?

Thanks for the heads up!

Is it possible to upgrade from 10.6.8 to 10.10 without having to upgrade from 10.6 to 10.7 to 10.8, etc?

entirely possibly. Upgrade to 10.6.8 to get the App Store.
Download the free 10.10.1 install app from the App Store.
Create a USB installer, either Clover or UniBeast works, but UniBeast is easier.
Install OS X Yosemite, Run MultiBeast.
DSDT is available in the forum database @ Downloads->DSDT
match your board rev and BIOS version with a download. Put the DSDT.aml file on your desktop and run MultiBeast, selecting UserDSDT, or, if you have already run MB, just copy it to the /Extra folder (if using Clover, copy it to /EFI/ACPI/Patched

I am trying to sign into the App Store on OS X 10.6.8.
I have a verified Apple ID, but each time I try to sign in I get the error "Your computer or device could not be verified"
I am trying to download OS X 10.10.1 from the App Store, but without being able to log in; this will be impossible.
