first off thanks everyone last year for there help.

following many months of giving up on this i decided to give it another go.

right then what have i done where am i at -

i have installed 10.6.3 using iboot legacy, iboot doesnt work for me just gives me panics.

i eventuay got my wireless network going.

i have downloaded 1.6.8 and installed it following a few panics i used update helper to get me past this and then ran mutibeast using easybeast install, which all went fine.

i then restarted and got a panic but not sure if i need to go back to start or is there a work around?

the panic says "type 14 page fault at the top" followed by 3/4 of a page of text and a multi lingual restart message.

this is after many erasings, reinstalls etc etc

any help as always greatly appreciated

steve

I'm having the same problem. After I installed 10.6.8 it just keeps restarting. I tried using the Haswell iBoot with no luck. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

steve...

after you do the combo update for 10.6.8
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1399
I suggest that you use an additional Boot Switch when rebooting....

this will be added to the normal ones you use such as -v etc and that is -f
this forces the OS to load all kexts fresh and not use cached values which would be older kexts.

Try this

PS - you may also want to install this update as well from Apple http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1512

PPS

ALso you will have issues w that ATI video ... I do believe that this has no support in Snow Leopard and was only started to get support in LION so this is problem most likely. Swap it out for a nVidia card ( old school) like a 8400GS

thanks

i tried -v and -f and it still gave me the black screen of death with no signal on my screen (your going to say graphics card i can feel it in my water)

so i tried -v -f -x and managed to get a screenshot just before it died on me

ps never had this much trouble on my dragon 32 many years ago (showing my age now)

pps any particular brand of nvidia 8400gs i only have option of evga passive graphics card on amazon uk at a reasonable price ($37) or evga geforce nvidia 8400gs ($45)

On 6 series Sandy Bridge systems install goes like this:
1. Install 10.6.3
2. Update to 10.6.7 with combo update, reboot with iBoot
3. Download and install Update Helper from forum downloads
4. Reboot with iBoot.
5. Download and run 10.6.8 Update (combo)
6. Run MultiBeast. Reboot.
7. Download and run the 10.6.8 update (combo) v1.1
8. Reboot and enjoy.

You can continue to run 10.6.8, you can upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 by purchase or to 10.9 for free.

thankyou very much

i can only find 10.6.8 combo update v1.1 does anyone have a link for the original combo update please

thanks

The Update 10.6.8 V 1.1 is whats needed... use that for best results.

Also if you want and you can find / locate a nvidia GT110 or a GT210 in the UK...

Also as you are a member state of the EU community you should check to see if your electronic salvage shops have used video cards available for a low price. As computers are constantly being discarded for newer ones.
Another good place is friends and family as they may have an old computer stored in the basement. Also medium to large company Information Service departments may have them on the shelf as video cards are routinely pulled from surplus computers and as these companies have to pay $$$ for storage and giving one away is in their interest - so ask workers in these departments!

Here is a list of various GFX cards that you can use to locate and the results you should see.

My personal preference is EVGA cards but others work as well ( check out the WIKI).

But before you make your purchase do search for that model of card in Google or in our search system and add key words like "Hackintosh or Snow Leopard" should produce some results you can read up on.

thanks

i checked out the wiki and bought the gt210 which it says works out the box.

in the meantime i will update to 10.6.7 and await its arrival then hopefully friday as i am off i will then make the leap of faith into 10.6.8 and maybe even 10.9 if it all goes really well

one step at a time

just a silly question

could i use the intel integrated graphics on my motherboard to get past this 10.6.8 install problem

it states on the gigabyte website they are "Enhanced Intel HD Graphics 2000/3000 integrated with the processor"

to me that sounds quite reasonable a possibility to others it might seem like wearing wellies to the queens garden party

thanks

If the processor has the HD300 graphics, then yes, you can install using the CPU graphics. If the processor has HD2000 or HD2500, then no, it won't work as these are not supported.
