This is my first Hackintosh and I seem to be getting something very wrong. I am trying to upload Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 Retail DVD via iBoot Tuitorial on tonymacx86.

iBoot loads and then I when I try to upload Mac OS X from Disc I keep getting Kernel Panics namely the one below here and image attached.

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x27cc0f): "pmap-steal-memory"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.15.02/osfmk/vm/vm_resident .c:757

I have read loads and followed all the guides - set up bios, rechecked bios, unconnected all extra drives, USBs except mouse and keyboard and any peripherals. But I must be doing something very wrong.

Tried lots of boot loader flags and nothing is working including:

-x PCIRootUID=0 npci=0x2000 -v
-x PCIRootUID=1 npci=0x2000 -v
PCIRootUID=1 -x GraphicsEnabler=no npci=0x2000
PCIRootUID=1 -x GraphicsEnabler=no npci=0x3000
PCIRootUID=1 -x GraphicsEnabler=Yes npci=0x2000
PCIRootUID=1 -x GraphicsEnabler=Yes npci=0x3000

And LOTS of variations of the above - into two days of trying and still no joy.

The only thing I can think is my monitor is a DVI cable and also tried it in HDMI but my graphics card doesn’t have any other option for VGA… any ideas.

If anyone has any advise I would be so grateful.

Thanks a million in advance.

You need a Snow Leopard supported gfx card to install SL to begin with and put your 660Ti in after you install Mavericks.
have you looked in the user builds / golden builds forums for similar hardware or used the forum search to find other builds using your board and CPU?
http://www.tonymacx86.com/search.php?googleSearch=Asus RAMPAGE IV EXTREME + 3930K

There have also been a lot of reports of problems with Corsair RAM during install - remove all but one module and ake sure it is in the correct slot for single module of RAM per the board manual on memory installation.

You might also add CPUs=1 to your boot flags

Thanks a million for your advice. That really helped about the Graphics card so I decided to follow your lead on the Maverick's install... thought I was restricted to SL so was very helpful.

Found a great post in Golden builds like you suggested and worked great.

USBs not working after install but having a look at that today - might be a Kext for that somewhere.

Thanks again.

Patjamz -

your config is so very close to mine and I'm having the same problems - I'm a first timer using a Sabertooth X79 and a GTX 770. Seems like the problem is related to kernel extensions being missing, yet from the tutorials you have to get past this point in order to even talk about kexts. I'm booting a CD with iboot and then switching to the SL DVD, and changing boot flags changes the nature of the panics. I can get the ACPI error, the com.apple.kpi.iokit error, panics with and without a graphic being displayed - it all seems to suggest I am missing some drivers for my setup, but unless there's a way to include kexts in the iboot disk, I'm waiting for the light bulb to go off. There's something very basic I'm misinterpreting here. Maybe it's because I'm reading the CD and DVD on a USB-connected drive, but I don't know. Seems like every time I find a question in the forums that I can relate to - such as yours - there's no response. It's just going to take patience on my part, and wait and see. Now, I'm going out of town for a week , so maybe something will hit me like a bolt of lightning :)

Hi secondjohn,

I finally got things to work on my system. I have no great experience so don't want to appear like I profess to know the answer but two things that I did which seemed to help me might just work for you.

First I double checked my Bios carefully in accordance to the link below - make sure you set it to boot in mac os as this caught me out I think: Navigate to “Boot\ Secure Boot Menu >” and set “OS Type” to “Other OS”.

Second I abandoned trying to install Snow Leopard and decided to go straight to installing Maverick.

Read the link below carefully to an install by Shilohh and try his method of install - it worked for me.

As I say I have no great knowledge but hopefully this will help. Let me know how you get on.

Enjoy your few days holiday.

a Note of Caution.
Per your statement -
Second I abandoned trying to install Snow Leopard and decided to go straight to installing Maverick.[\QUOTE]

Please read the Rules of the site - http://www.tonymacx86.com/faq.php
as we do not tolerate users and posters mentioning other install methods.
And as you need either to have another Hack or Mac that you can make the UniBeast Mavericks Thumb Drive on or you need to install Snow Leopard then Download Mavericks and make the UniBeast Thumb Drive.

I will assume that you have other ways of making the UNIBEAST thumb Drive. And that this allowed you to install Mavericks onto this hardware.

Apologies - I should have explained myself better.

I installed Mavericks through the use of my Macbook Pro and carefully following the instructions in a guide on the TonyMac website in the Golden Builds section:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/golden-bu...-extreme-32gb-ram-gtx-770-4gb-success-10.html

Sorry if this caused any confusion.

Thanks for clarification on the posting procedures - will make sure to be more care and also explain myself a bit clearer next time as not to run the risk of any confusion. :)

Patjamz

No problem... and thanks for the clarifications...

Also its come to my knowledge that Corsair Ram is not approved and can cause issues w some MB's and causes issues w OSX installs.

FYI
