After following the snow leopard guide from the menu, after reboot I could not boot into snowy leopards. There's a link in the guide that says if you can't reboot, click here. But the link is dead. What's to be done?

Please follow rules and list specs of hardware if not same as that in your profile - too many versions of Optiplex to keep them straight and will not look it up for you.

All I know is it's a core 2 duo with 4 gigs ram. I updated the bios to a21. I swapped out the hard drive for a 1 terabyte 2.5 inch. All the virtualization settings are off in the the bios as well as speed step. Oh it has an anti Radeon had 2400 xt discrete graphics card. Oh and the cup runs at 2.33 Ghtz.

Iboot boots it up without a hitch.

Also it's the desktop, not the tower. It has a dual layer dVd r/w and a 3.5 floppy drive. And 8 USB ports, 2 front, 6 rear.

Did you remove the retail DVD after install and boot with the iBoot CD? This is a necessary step since you have not as yet installed a boot loader.

Basic procedure:
boot with iBoot, eject iBoot CD
swap iBoot for SL DVD, close tray
wait for DVD-RW to spin down, hit F5 to refresh
select SL DVD and hit enter
at install first screen select Utilities->disk utility and format drive
exit DU and continue with install.
When install completes, it wants to reboot.
eject DVD and replace it with iBoot, reboot
when again at Chimera screen, select the OS X icon and boot
finish install, run MultiBeast, eject iBoot, reboot

Enjoy

Oh for pity's sake. How do you think i tried to install a boot loader if I didn't use the iBoot dvd to get into the new snow leopard install? Really? Condescension doesn't become a help forum in any way what so ever.

after getting some correct info about my boot error, it was reavealed that my 1 tab hdd was the problem as it is a 4 k drive. So I put the old clunky 80 gig back in and installed to it. Ran multibeast on that hdd and it rebooted ok. However, after the reboot I now have no Ethernet connection where before I had one. So while it reboots I can't connect to the Internet.

Maybe it it would be good if multibeast for snow leopards was able to handle 4 k drives. That would be a good thing I think.

The steps given are absolutely correct and were certainly given in the spirit of helping add some detail to the installation process.

Had you got one of these steps wrong then you would have been able to spot that disparity and rectify it. As far as I am aware neither I nor anyone else gave such a concise summary as has been supplied here.

I went for the boot 0 guide due to a possible 4K drive out of a hunch - there was no facts or information that I had that could otherwise have led me to conclude if that was the reason that your install would not boot. There are/were many other possibilities to consider but I used that to start discussion in order to aid your feedback.
