Hi all.

Because I like Apple devices except that they are not upgradeable, I decided to build my own hackintosh. The problem is that I'm struggling to install the retail Mac OS S X 10.6.3 version that I purchased from the apple store.

I have been able to install successfully using iBoot legacy, but because I was unable to start up after install (Kernel panics even when using GraphicsEnabler and PCIRootUID arguments), I deleted the install and have been trying since then again with iBoot 3.3 instead. I have tried with multiple combinations of the usual boot arguments, but I am never able to complete the install. Whereas the install with iBoot legacy ran smoothly and relatively quickly, the DVD reads constantly back and forth, with little progress shown in the bar (stays stuck at around 15%), until the computer eventually crashes and reboots.

Hardware wise I had removed all components (PCI cards, USB devices, RAM) except the graphic card and 1 x 2GB RAM.

I had obviously adjusted the BIOS as advised: AHCI and 64 bit HPTE.

Any idea what the problem could be and what I should be trying next?

Thanks in advance for your support.

To install 10.6.3 you need to use a supported GPU - the 750Ti will not work.

BTW - this is posted in the Guides forum - not support. I will move it to Snow Leopard Desktop Support forum after you reply so you know where it will be.

Thanks going bald.

Sorry for the wrong posting location.

I will try with an old 260 GTX I kept. Hopefully that will work better. If so, maybe I can upgrade to Yosemite first and then change back to the 750 Ti.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi Guys.

OK, so after replacing the 750 Ti with the old GTX 260, I managed to install Mac OS X SL. Problem is that I am unable to boot... After a successful install, I put back the iBoot CD, select the SL install and using various combinations of boot arguments, I always get an error message related to com.apple.iokit.IOSCSImultimediaCommandsDevice (see below). Any clue what could be the reason? BTW, I installed on a Samsung 840 Evo 120 GB drive.

thanks,

Did you have Legacy USB enabled in BIOS?

You might go back and re-read the P55 Customac guide - http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/iboot-multibeast-install-mac-os-x-on.html

I did have the legacy USB enabled in the BIOS, just like shown on the Customac guide. If I disable it, my keboard is not recognised at startup and I cannot select the Mac OS X option to boot with.

I have reinstalled SL with iBoot Legacy, which also installs ok but which I also cannot boot...

Do you have any external drives connected to USB ports/FireWire ports/eSATA ports? If yes, disconnect them. Do you have any PCIe cards for USB/FireWire/eSATA installed? If yes, remove them.

Any other card readers/floppy drives/optical drives other than the one you are using to install with? If yes, disconnect them.
