So we have extremly similar laptops. Same base config. I have a Lenovo Ideapad S740. I think the major difference is that mine is non-yoga and doesn't have the 360 hinge.
Now as for the screen, I kinda got it working:

Dont get AMD's. This is my story. Got a GTX1060 and really enjoyed using it for gaming. However since I had no luck with hackintosh, I too decided to switch to RX480. While everything worked smoothly on that, there was one glaring problem. The RX480 needs a helper card to boot with acceleration...

One additional step is; after checking InfoPlistPatching, change the "Type/key" to DATA.
A few of us on other threads were wondering about the need of a helper card. We concluded that its probably a connector definition problem and were trying to find the Ellesmere or the Baffin personality. While Ellesmere is not supported, but we should have found Baffin in AMD9500Controller.kext...

Also, the more I think about it, your conclusion makes sense. Whenever I boot with PCIe selected as primary, I get "No Signal" on my screen. Hence it does seem to be a problem with ports rather...
Lol..! I agree. Now I have been looking into DSDT patching to avoid using a helper card. Very useful if dual-booting or triple-booting (in my case). But have not been successful. Any help from anyone would be much appreciated.
That is how I have been doing it. And yes I can confirm that it works for my ASUS ROG RX480 8G. One additional step that I would add is; after checking InfoPlistPatching, change the "Type/key" to DATA.
Tried with eDP patch. Connector-type shows up in IOReg, but problem still persist. Same when using IntelBacklight.kext instead of ACPIBacklight.kext. IOReg and config.plist attached.
I am booting purely UEFI with no Legacy boot.
Not sure if this helps, but on linux I discovered that my laptop's display is connected on eDP and not LVDS.

So after rebooting the first time, this time when I changed the ig-platform-id, it boot up fine after restarting once. I could not take a photo since it is not recurring anymore. I'm guessing the reboots were unrelated.
With 0x0a260006 the problem still persists.

Hey RehabMan,
After reading your last reply, I was wondering what had I missed as I had implemented all of those in my DSDT and SSDT's. After spending a day, I discovered that in my config.plist, DropOEM was set to false. Enabling all of that fixed brightness and HDMI-audio. I had not noticed...
I read through the FAQ's and they discuss about the issue of "garbled screen at boot". I do not have that issue, instead the garble occurs when connecting the HDMI screen. When in mirror mode, both screen display perfectly. But when extending the desktop over both screens, the HDMI monitor...
Hello RehabMan,
I am replying after a year (some circumstances didn't allow me to perform the steps earlier and respond).
I have performed a fresh install of El Capitan this time and latest Clover v3354. But the issue of garbled screen persists. I have attached latest IOreg and patchmatic...
Well I just connected my laptop with a screen over HDMI. Everything works fine if i mirror the displays, but if i choose to extend it, the built-in displays shows garbage, while external screen works normally. I do lots of work on extended displays, so any guidance is appreciated.
