The one you are referring to is the c720 with the Intel Celeron 2955U processor. I lurked when I saw that thread, but was doubtful it could succeed. This model however has an i3 and the 4400 IGP so it might fair better.
Throwing out a feeler for this laptop. Seems like an incredible budget buy if it would run OSX.

Processor Manufacturer Intel
Processor Type Core i3
Processor Model i3-4005U

The HP parts store doesn't have the cable anymore. I ordered the cable from Alinc. But I noticed that some people had issues with the cable from them. I'm hoping that isn't the case.
Any audible beeps?
Things I would check:
I would recheck that your ram is properly seated.
Make sure video card is properly seated.
Verify cpu is in place and locked in correctly and the same for the fan.
Verify that all power cables are snug and secure.
Verify the little LED, audio...
Another option is utilizing:
Codea ON the iPad
Import the from from Codea into the Codea Runtime.
Then import the project into xcode for tweaking iOS specific functions and debugging.
I doubt they will back away from Intel CPUs anytime soon. But I wouldn't be surprised to see a hybrid or a lower end MacBook with a ARM chip. I wouldn't be surprised to see a hybrid that combines iOS and OS X. The screen would essentially be an iPad that when docked to the keyboard base would...
ASUS Vivobook S200 / X202 (Is it good?)
I'm curious as well. Any updates? It seems like it could be a nice low cost option for those wanting Windows 8 and OS X.
Well I'll have 3.x GBs of RAM in a couple of days. (2x 2GB sticks) I see no reason why the x1600 can't run with QE in ML. I expect I'll have to hack some things to get it to work. I'll just have to hope that some hacker who knows a bit more than I do, comes up with a solution I can follow. There...
Looks like some guides are happening: *GUIDE* Mountain Lion on OLD UNSUPPORTED MACS! - MacRumors Forums
Doesn't seem like any QE with x1600 GPU at the moment.
I have a 17-inch iMac (details here: iMac (Late 2006) - Technical Specifications) and I'm curious if anyone thinks I might be able to hack it to run Mountain Lion despite the
x1600 not being compatible?
Re: SAMSUNG SERIES 7 SLATE/TABLET >>>>75% COMPLETE!<<<< 10.7.3

Might be something useful here. It's for the s7 laptop on Ubuntu, but there might be something to glean from it when it comes to the backlight. I'll keep hunting.
Re: SAMSUNG SERIES 7 SLATE/TABLET >>>>75% COMPLETE!<<<< 10.7.3
Very nice! I've been quietly watching this thread. Will be nice to see the final fruits of all this hard work. Hopefully everything will be fully functional and we'll have a nice option for a OSX slate.
I'd also recommend throwing an SSD in your thinkpad, major performance improvements. And update your bios with the Middleton bios hack to unlock SATA II.
