    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

Hello, I'm a novice so can't offer too much, except to say that you might consider an nVidia 640 or 650 card; I have the 640 and it is detected natively and I think it pretty much eliminates video-related issues. It removes one potential stumbling block and I'm really happy with it. I have the...

Chimera 4.1 Injects Intel HD 5500 Graphics on Broadwell BRIX

I wonder if the new Intel NUCs would also be a good choice, like the NUC5i5RYK: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/nuc/nuc-kit-nuc5i3ryk.html It uses Intel wireless AC 7265 M.2 and bluetooth J

    Crucial m500 as boot drive

I'm using a Dell XPS 8500 and it's working nicely from a Samsung 830 SSD. I bought a Crucial m500 mSATA card to use as a boot drive; the install goes fine, just like installing on the Samsung 830, but booting fails. I have it set to start with the mSATA in BIOS Has anyone any hints about...

    Dell XPS 8500 with Mavericks

I removed the wifi module and put in the recommended TPLink one, and have nVidia card. I strongly recommend both, they work OOB without kexts or anything. Here's my Multibeast printout and protocol: After installing Mavericks on HD: It reboots. Turn computer off. Restart. At boot...

This may not help you, but I have mine working but used slightly different parameters or I would get kernel panic with a message regarding AppleIntelCPUPowerManagment. I had to add: Patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement > OS X 10.9.0 Drivers and I used Mac Pro 3,1. So Multibeast looks like...

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

Skritch, I have the Dell XPS 8500 with the nVidia 640 card. I can get it to boot from the USB, and from the hard drive if I use the -x parameter ("safe mode", no device drivers) but that's it. Have you had success? What Multibeast parameters? Thanks J

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

I'm guessing that the 10.8.2 update overwrites some kexts or .plist files. I haven't been editing those directly as some of those here do, so this is out of my league right now. But one could make a case for printing them out before and after updating to 10.8.2, which might inform you of which...

Hawkscorpion, Oh my. Nice work on the audio. Agreed, works. I have attached a screenshot from MB 5.1.1 that I used for my install. Plus Easybeast (I can't make a screenshot tall enough to show it all). Note that I have an nVidia 640 card and I also added TP-Link TL-WDN4800 wireless card...

Lunarmouse, Caveat: I am new at this. But I think you should first try leaving the GT640 card in. In my experience, it was detected and identified normally and required no drivers or anything else; truly worked "out of the box". I used GraphicsEnabler=No but frankly not certain about this...

Zotac H77 + Ivy + Radeon or Geforce?

I switched out my ATI 7570 card in Dell XPS 8500 for an EVGA GT640 and it's detected natively and performs normally out of the box without any fussing. Nice to have no concerns about this. Rumored: 650 series cards, similar, but with DDR5 rather than DDR3 RAM, should be a good deal. J

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

Leonowski, I have found that four of the USB ports don't work. Not that it makes much difference, there are lots of them. The ones that do: top of the box, four topmost on back. The ones that don't: two on the front of the box, bottom two on back of the box. Also, I re-installed everything...

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

Leonowski, I suspect that all the nVidia 6xx cards will work out of the box too. If you can wait a month the 650 series cards might be available - they use the same chip as the 640 series, but DDR5 rather than DDR3. It is thought that it will make a difference as the 640 series are supposedly...

    Guide: Dell XPS 8500

I have been interested in using it as an HTPC, connected to a flat screen TV via HDMI. That would be very cool if that worked and was hassle-free. With an SSD (these are suddenly cheap just over the past few months!) this would run silently and use little power too. If you get the HDMI...

Leonowski et al, I've been lurking a while and followed your instructions, and it seems as though all is well. Most recently, changed the SMBios at your suggestion to MacBookPro9,1 and I no longer get inexplicable slowdowns with spinning beach balls. It boots normally and audio (headphone...

Still haven't gotten around to playing with this much. Soon. I see the EVGA GeForce GT 640 seems to be working well for some folks here, I may have to go with that. Can you give me the full path to the plist files? And do you recall which Voodoo driver you checked? I used the only one that...
