    [Guide] Dell XPS 15 9560: 4K Touch, 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 100% AdobeRGB

Hi there, Just wanted to pop in and make it official that I am (and have been for a while) pretty much completely finished with this project. It was mainly an academic exercise to see how well it could work, and, well, it did, though I've long since switched back to using my old Late 2013...

    [Guide] Dell XPS 15 9560: 4K Touch, 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 100% AdobeRGB

Yes, on an AOC U2879VF. No RDM needed, no framerate issues. (Sierra 10.12.6) Also: BIOS 1.7.0 is safe (does not break anything) over 1.6.2.

    USB-C Hotplug not working

Only a MacBook Pro11,3 with TB2 that I can run Linux on.

    [Guide] Dell XPS 15 9560: 4K Touch, 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 100% AdobeRGB

You know the MBP14,3 uses a 7700HQ, right? I found that my XPS would dip down to 0.8GHz when I unplugged the charger, and then would go right back to 1.3GHz. I haven't looked at this in more than a month and a half at this point, and I forgot if I ever figured out why. The frequencyvectors...

    USB-C Hotplug not working

Goodwin_C was able to in that other thread. You may want to contact him since it looks like you're re-discovering things we already found (he was able to get USB-C 100% working, and got stuck on establishing a Thunderbolt handshake IIRC). EDIT: Also 15b5 DSL6340 USB 3.1 Controller [Alpine...

    USB-C Hotplug not working

The best I got on that front was being told "No driver detected" or something to that extent (i.e. Not the usual "No hardware found" message). I have had an Ethernet device show up as "Thunderbolt@0" in the Ethernet Cards tab. There should be a screenshot at that earlier link I posted. EDIT: Or...

    USB-C Hotplug not working

Just so you know, implementing the security features of Thunderbolt involves establishing an encrypted handshake between device and host. Apple did that differently than everyone else up until their most recent TB3 hardware (e.g. Skylake/Kaby Lake). This is why Windows and Mac devices had to be...

    USB-C Hotplug not working

Well, for what it's worth, here are some SSDTs I made a while ago in attempts to mimic the way Apple's work. None of these work 100% for hotswap (the "In_use" one has the random behavior I described). It's basically an attempt at porting the Apple SSDTs to my Dell.

    USB-C Hotplug not working

The Device ID for the NHI is 1575, the PCI bridges are 1576. I agree; I think a proper driver is the best way to go, unless we can figure out what Apple's drivers are looking for. In that thread you'll also find I posted a particular Thunderbolt-related ACPI table in which Apple left full...

    USB-C Hotplug not working

That's the issue I've always been having; nothing new there.

    USB-C Hotplug not working

Oh my god. This is awesome!!! Can't wait to try it. I was under the impression that something like a well-placed Notify() would trigger a rescan, but I'm not aure with the way Apple did things. Also this thread might help...

    New XPS 15 (9560) compatibility?

No. The issue is that in an Optimus configuration, the GTX is piped through the Intel HD graphics. On a real Mac, the graphics cards are both connected to the display and there's a dedicated graphics output multiplexer that lets one or the other access the screen. There's no "isn't it just..."...

    New XPS 15 (9560) compatibility?

Woops, I was wondering where I left that. Sorry, no, that part (CUDA) doesn't actually work. My post was a little bit too pre-emptive: at the time it looked like it was working, but it turns out it wasn't. :/

    [Guide] Dell XPS 15 9560: 4K Touch, 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 100% AdobeRGB

BIOS 1.5.0 doesn't break anything. Your shutdown/reboot problem sounds like it might be related to "USB Wake" in the BIOS settings--make sure it's unchecked. The reason there is a delay (it's about 2-3 seconds) when plugging in the USB-C device is because the Thunderbolt controller needs to...

    [Guide] Dell XPS 15 9560: 4K Touch, 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 100% AdobeRGB

I suppose I could make a new zip file now, but something pretty good's in the pipeline and I wanted to wait until that was done (I think it's really worth the wait ;) ). WD15 is USB-C, not Thunderbolt, hmm. I think you need to check your BIOS version. You MUST be on 1.3.4 and be using SSDT-TYPC...

    [Guide] Dell XPS 15 9560: 4K Touch, 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, 100% AdobeRGB

You know, I've always had that "require password immediately" setting enabled. Maybe that's why I've never had an issue? I just got on 10.12.6 today. I'll post something when I can. The gist of it is: I've updated almost all kexts in EFI/Clover/Kexts/Other to newer versions (and...

    USB-C Hotplug not working

You CAN get your TB3 port working as a USB port, but you have to learn how your port works and adapt either my SSDT-TYPC/SSDT-YTBT or dpassmor's versions. Or, if you're lucky, you might find you don't even have to deal with a a port that turns itself totally off, which would still require a DSDT...

    USB-C Hotplug Questions

They don't. We're using this trick because laptops like the Dell XPSes power down (completely) their Type-C port controllers when nothing's using them, and an ExpressCard is a device that also behaves like this. Per dpassmor's descriptions, USB controller ExpressCard devices are real, and Mac OS...

    USB-C Hotplug not working

It depends. On my old desktop it was simply not hotpluggable, period. On my current laptop, I get a full system hard lock upon removing a Thunderbolt device as a tradeoff of how I needed to enable USB Type-C (and the TB device doesn't work when plugged in, as per my past few posts). I've seen a...

It's just a matter of finding the appropriate Linux driver and using the same vendor register settings. Unfortunately I don't have time to look into other audio codecs, but for your jack it should really be as simple as going through the Linux driver source and copy-pasting the vendor...
