VLC Media Player for iPad and iPhone Now Available

I notice another post about clicking the "Free" button in the iTunes store. This does indeed work. If you click the big VLC icon in the iTunes store you get the message "VLC is not available in the UK iTunes store"... but if you click the +Free button below the icon it will download.

VLC Media Player for iPad and iPhone Now Available

I tried to install VLC on my iPhone 5 but it's not available in the UK or Singapore iTunes stores. I noticed on the VideoLAN website the binary .ipa file is available here: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc-iOS/2.0.1/vlc-iOS-2.0.1.ipa However I get an error when syncing to my...

Early Adopter's Guide to Intel's Haswell CPUs and 8-Series Motherboards

Article: Early Adopter's Guide to Intel's Haswell CPUs and 8-Series Motherboards I tend to agree with you Stork. I'm also a general purpose user and built my first Hackintosh (UP5-TH 3770K) almost a year ago. I still can't buy a genuine iMac that's as powerful. Unless there's something...

Post Your Network Speeds - Download/Upload

Would you believe this is the slowest cheapest service I can buy here. If I wasn't so miserly I could be running 200, 500 or 1000Mb/s to the desktop.

Apple's New Mac minis Have Ivy Bridge Mobile CPUs

I have a i7 3770k built into a UP5-TH board as per Alfa147's build. It's fab. At 3.5GHz it does about 14,500 on Geekbench 64-bit. I tried it at 4.5GHz the other day and got something like 16,800. It's on the Geekbench archive under "Cruel_Brit". Great job on this site Tony btw. Fabulous. Next...

    Minimod's hackintosh - i7 3770k, GA-Z77X-UP5 TH

I used the built in Intel 4000 graphics in the i7 3770K CPU connected to the DVI socket on the motherboard before I moved on to the GT640 card. If this is your first Hackintosh (as was mine) I suggest you walk before trying to run. In other words build the basic machine first without graphics...

GA-Z77X-UP5 TH Bluetooth and CPU temps

If you didn't get the RAM speed to display correctly try upgrading the BIOS after downloading from the Gigabyte website. I think (though my memory is fuzzy) this is how I fixed this problem. I am now running BIOS F9. The board shipped with F4.

    Minimod's hackintosh - i7 3770k, GA-Z77X-UP5 TH

Prior to setting GraphicsEnabler=n the machine simply wouldn't boot unless I pulled the GT640 out of the motherboard. This setting is changed using Multibeast. There's a submenu called "Customisations". See picture attached (if I can work out how to attached images to posts!)

    Minimod's hackintosh - i7 3770k, GA-Z77X-UP5 TH

Not totally sure about your question but here goes: Why did I choose the GT640? Because I'm not a gamer/video editor and I just wanted to run 2560 x 1440 smoothly and maybe a second monitor in the future. The Z77XUP5-TH will not support this resolution with Intel 4000 on-chip graphics. I...

    Minimod's hackintosh - i7 3770k, GA-Z77X-UP5 TH

Hi Minimod, Got my machine built. Went out after my last post and bought the parts. No major problems except I couldn't get the GT640 card to work because I hadn't set GraphicsEnabler=n! Everything seems to work except USB3.0 is slow (75MB/s). I will post a more thorough write up when I...

    Minimod's hackintosh - i7 3770k, GA-Z77X-UP5 TH

I am very interested to know if this works out well. It's almost exactly what I plan to build and it'll be my first Hackintosh too. Only differences in my spec are: 27" 2560 x 1440 display (probably Samsung unless I can be bothered to buy Apple for aesthetic reasons) 16GB, 1600MHz CL7...
