No, I haven't had any freezes since the OS installed. Your situation is very strange. Did you change anything before it started freezing, or has it been doing that ever since the install?

There might be a workaround, but as far as I know the disk needs to be formatted HFS+ to work with Time Machine. So no, you can't use the NTFS drive without reformatting it.
You could try Chameleon bootloader; that's what works for me. Install it with the Chameleon Wizard: http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=1713.
If you already have your partitions set up, it should work right away.
