Create a "Fusion Drive" on your CustoMac

As a corollary to my Nov 12 comments, I'll be doing a practical setup of a FD with 2 RAID'd SSD's as the SSD end of things. Just built a new machine, after about a week of kext/HW shake down on running on a HDD, I'll bet trying the RAID/FD setup. In case anyone is still following that possibility...

Create a "Fusion Drive" on your CustoMac

Has anyone confirmed that TRIM is enabled on the factory setup FusionDrives? I'm not sure if it's needed or if CoreStorage is smart enough to do garbage management on it's own. I haven't tried it on either on my 2 setups but both of mine use OWC drives that OWC says specifically do not enable TRIM.

Create a "Fusion Drive" on your CustoMac

Yes, you can use a softRAID as a physical volume. I've tested that it's possible, haven't been able to do practical setup for one yet and benchmark it. Diskutil will treat a RAID just the same as a single disk when creating a LVG. Mirrors work as well, it can lose one on the fly and not have a...

    New Fusion Drive

So far, the RAID arrays are holding up in practice. I've created a RAID 0 from a couple 8GB flash drives and combined the resulting disk with a 250 USB HDD into a LVG and it seems to work just fine. My big concern is that what ever method CoreStorage uses to decided which member disk is the...

    New Fusion Drive

Found this, if accurate it seems that converting a RAID'd logical volume to a CS volume is possible: http://kerr.io/encrypting-apple-raid-volumes-in-10-8-mountain-lion/ He did it for encryption reasons (which may or may not work in 10.8, definitely not under 10.7) but for the purpose of...

    New Fusion Drive

Not sure what benefit 2 SSD's plus the HDD would be aside from that much more storage. I'd be curious if you could soft-stripe the SSD's together then create a LVG with the array and the HDD. I don't have any spare SSD's to play with but might be able to scare up a matched pair of HDD's just to...

MultiBeast 4.6.1 install failure on 10.8

Yayz, I confirmed that MB 5.0.1 has fixed the issue with the Kernel cache puking. Huzzah to Tony, MacMan and the crew.

MultiBeast 4.6.1 install failure on 10.8

When I tried to rebuild it manually it seemed pissed about NVClockX.kext, any idea if that's something I can toss/replace? I run a 8400GS in that.

MultiBeast 4.6.1 install failure on 10.8

Having some trouble getting MultiBeast 4.6.1 to run after upgrading to 10.8. Pretty much any option I run will fail. Here's the gist of what I see in install log: Jul 28 13:41:50 <HostnameRedacted> Installer[4908]: install:didFailWithError:Error Domain=PKInstallErrorDomain Code=121 "An error...

Viability of server build with HD2000

Flexibility, scriptability and stability. The first 2 are self explanatory and FreeNAS is extremely buggy when you want to use anything beyond the basic features. FreeNAS's only real advantage, as you mentioned, if ZFS. If ZFS was all the mattered, I'd run OpenIndiana Server and call it a day...

Viability of server build with HD2000

I have a system I built as a file server, running FreeNAS 8 that I'm considering switching to run 10.7. The main board is a GA-H67A-USB3 which I know to be workable for a hackintosh. The CPU is an i3 2100 which I know uses the unsupported HD2000 onboard graphics. I've seen a few threads where...

    Gordo Guide: GA-P67A-UD3-B3 Overclocking

What are you guys on air cooled 2500k's running at idle? I have one of those CoolIt self contained water systems that works like a champ under load but in a warmish room I'll see 32-36 degrees at 4.4 GHz.

How to Change Your Bootloader Using MultiBeast

I can't seem to get the new bootloader to stick. I select Chimera and reboot but I get the same old "Darwin/x86 boot v5.0.132 - AnVAL v5.1.4 r709". Do I need to find and trash the old bootloader?

    Vanilla Kernel and 10.6.7 with GA-P67A-UD5-B3 <GUIDE

Re: Vanilla SB 10.6.7 with GA-P67A-UD5-B3 or HUGE SUCCESS <GUIDE Is there a version of dsdt auto patcher newer then ver .4? I'm not seeing one and .4 doesn't list any gigabyte p67 boards. I got mine from kexts.com, some where else I should be shopping? Edit: Nevermind, found it on insanelymac...
