Could a failing HD (add-on, not OSX 10.6.8 installed) cause beach ball hangs across multiple program

Well, I finally got around to opening the case and unplugging the sata and power connectors to one of the 6 or 7 drives I threw in my hackintosh. This particular drive was a WD 320 GB that I used to replace the 2008 160 GB drive that came with my macbook. Only tested it for a few minutes now...

Could a failing HD (add-on, not OSX 10.6.8 installed) cause beach ball hangs across multiple program

To preface this, I've done a bunch of reading on the forums looking for a similar situation. Like a good hackintosher, I was taking exact notes of everything about my system in a file that I was going to upload and link to so people could see the log files from Console while this was happening...

    System Fan Speed

hmm, i don't know for sure. My bet is if there is a place to change it, it would be in the BIOS. but it may just be the case that a system fan will just always push air out of the case. if you don't like the noise, you can check the decibel level of fans on newegg and find a silent one.

    Proposed build with - GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 with Intel HD3000 (?)

unless you plan on overclocking (which seems unwise given hackintoshes are a bit fragile to begin with and it shortens the life of the processor), maybe ditch the i7-2600k for an i5-2400 and use the money to buy a decent graphics card that would work well on snow leopard and lion...

    Am i underpowering myself?

also, when you start adding a bigger processor, a better motherboard, you approach closer to the limit of your existing power supply. http://images10.newegg.com/BizIntell/to ... index.html

    Am i underpowering myself?

just an fyi, i am running off an i3 2100 (I bought the processor by accident and couldn't return it) and think that it is not underpowered.) I run illustrator and photoshop at the same time as all of the other programs--browsers, itunes, preview, FTP, textmate, evernote, etc. and things run...

best motherboard with a 1155 socket?

I will make some decisions for you: you should buy a gigabyte brand. With a 1155 socket, the most versatile board will be a z68 chipset. You have 22 choices, all of which will work. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... ntel%20Z68 I recommend that you buy this one...

GPU disabling and enabling Intel HD3000

also, HD3000 only works on lion, so you would have to get that up and running as well. i don't know for sure, but considering that you have to install snow leopard first and then move over, i am not sure how that process works.

Proposed Parts - My First Computer Build

    Hows this shopping list?

same advice, use neweggs tool to give you a rough idea: http://images10.newegg.com/BizIntell/to ... index.html also, if you plan to upgrade to 16GB at some point, buying ram together in a set (that is usually tested that it works together) may be a better option. Slim slot-loading DVD / optical drive advice

if you don't need a dvd drive, why buy a slim slot loader? those are expensive. just stick a normal one on and power it outside the case, then unhook it when you are done building the system. otehrwise, my guess is that most dvd roms are super standardized and any should work OK. i worried...

    ASUS P8 H61-M + Corei5 2500 + 8GB Ram + HD 5770 + 1TB HDD

yikes, this sounds like a bit of a mess. i think most people on here use gigabyte boards. also, i think your best bet is to step back and prep a bit more. follow a set guide, and don't worry about things like audio or perfect resolution until you are reliably booting from your HDD. sounds like...
