I'm in the same situation. Can't create the usb drive (16GB) I followed the instructions correctly and I tried 3 different ports (back and front) A new version of El Capitan showed-up since I started my struggle... Currently on Yosemite

Found this on another thread... Make your mac show hidden files copy the contents of the 'extra' folder in iboot disk on your 'extra' folder on the mac installation. Don't overwrite the plist file there, but append what's missing from the plist file on the iboot disk. Reboot Works Thanks goes...
