Cool, thanks for the info! That's how I am running SL. That silly driver is the only thing stopping me from booting in 64bit (which works nicely otherwise). Hoping for the manufacturer to release a driver update soon.
If there's no 32bit mode anymore I will have to use onboard sound which pretty much sucks.
Maybe it's the Boot ROM version string then? Ah well, gotta wait for more info. It's only been out for a couple of hours :)
You're welcome! :) Good job on the summary, too!
Only differences during my installation were:
- I didn't remove any memory but added maxmem=3072 during boot for installation and as long as I was in 32bit mode (that's a very useful parameter for limiting the memory your kernel will see)
- My...
I know what you mean. After the first DVI didn't work anymore I didn't feel like trying out the 20 or 30 other framebuffers because every time I don't have a picture I have to hit the reset switch. Nothing broke so far, but it's really annoying.
Anyway, with ATY_Init out of my system I was...
FWIW, HDMI works for me with "Chameleon 2.0 RC5 - ATI Experimental". I have removed ATY_Init.kext from /S/L/E since it's not needed with this version of the bootloader and added a new AtiConfig key with its string set to Vervet to my com.apple.Boot.plist.
DVI-1 didn't seem to work anymore...
Re: Official CustoMac Pro X58A-UD3R-2.0 Install Guide for 10.6.4
Without X.M.P. my memory is set to 1066. I tried setting it to 1333 myself, but then the voltage was probably too low and the machine wouldn't boot. The X.M.P. profile fixed that so now it boots at 1333 and I haven't had any...
Yeah, I've seen that list before somewhere else. Luckily I didn't have to try all those options
In the now slightly outdated Official CustoMac Pro X58A-UD3R-2.0 Install Guide for 10.6.4 MacMan wrote to use the Vervet driver so that's what I installed. He has a 5770.
I have only...
The ALC8xxHDA kext alone won't do it, for the ALC889 you also need to install the AppleHDA Rollback and the DSDT for your mainboard and BIOS version from the database here.
If you don't want to bother with DSDTs you could also try the "ALC889 Non-DSDT HDAEnabler" instead.
That Realtek chip tends to crash if you are using the wrong driver. The official Realtek driver KPs when the chip doesn't respond. Going into BIOS and running SMART LAN also resets it, no need to power down the PC completely.
The Lnx2Mac driver has been working great so far.
Re: Official CustoMac Pro X58A-UD3R-2.0 Install Guide for 10.6.4
None of that should be necessary. I have 16GB of memory installed in the correct slots (1-4) and all of it gets recognized.
I always add "maxmem=3072" to the boot options just to be on the safe side whenever I install in 32bit...
