Thank you for the reply! It was suggested that I try some different USB ports, and that worked straight away. No patch required. The USB port all the way at the top left of the IO works (just left of the "USB Hotkey" port). Hope this helps someone!
I am also not able to get into the installer, replacing the apto2 with the apto file and booting with -v -x gets me further, but it always hangs at the crossed out circle. This motherboard is on the suggested list of compatible motherboards, does that mean that it should work or that tony just...
This looks excellent. I was unable (for some reason) to get El Capitan running on a h97n & 4690k, and have been wanting to get my hands on skylake and build something in the new iMagic pi mini case. Perhaps I can use this as my jumping off point. I wonder what ITX board is most compatible.
I read that post, do you see something that I don't? The only thing that mentions a reboot loop is here:
3. Kernel Panic or auto-reboot
If asking for help, boot in verbose mode (navigate to the entry you want to boot on the Clover menu, hit space bar, and select "Boot Mac OS X in verbose...
Ok, I fully installed Yosemite, and attempted to upgrade to el capitan following tonymacs guide. once I select install osx from the clover menu, it does exactly the same thing, loads the initial screen and reboots... I'm very confused.
Oh, and the system boots into windows OK... Also, creating a 10.10 installer with the exact same unibeast and same USB drive boots the installer with NO issues. I recreated the 10.11 USB and I have the exact same issue, loads the initial screen and reboots the computer.
I am running into a problem that I have never seen in many years of building these things. Clover loads, I select the usb installer, it displays the initial screen shown below, and right when I expect it to start loading files and such, it reboots.

I see you say that your USB 3.0 is working. Do have you tested the speed? my UD3H bored has USB 3.0 reporting cosmetically as 3.0, but the transfer speeds are the same...
What settings are you using for the custom resolution? switchresx does show a 4k 60z resolution as standard, but I notice you do not use that one. Simply creating a custom 4k resolution without changing anything must just default to that same resolution because it doesn't create a new resolution...
I use Windows to play fallout, civilization, bioshock, and games like that.
When I really want to flex the 3930k and dual 780s I play classics like Lemmings and quest for glory on the mac side.

I have a 2006 Mac Pro with 4 160GB 10kRPM drives running in raid 0 that I use as my computer at work. Read times of nearly 500MB/s, and the mac itself cost me $280, I took the 2tb and 500gb drives out and put them in other machines. I got the 10kRMP drives on ebay for $10 a piece. It...
I swapped the sata cable for the DVD drive from 5 to 6 on the motherboard and all is well. I am going to call asus on this one. The drive worked fine to install games, drivers, and programs. Just had issues with playback.
I have recently run into an issue with my sabertooth build. The optical drive is acting funny. I had an asus in there, it worked to install the x79 drivers and such for windows, but would randomly dismount the disk it had in it. This happened on both operating systems (windows and mavericks). I...

If you are OK with using voodoo, by all means. I only use it as an absolute last resort. it can cause issues, and with the USB sound devices being a cheap and effective as they are, there is no reason (for me) to compromise. I am glad you found a solution!
Good plan. It is best to tinker with a second machine until you get good at keeping the machine up and running in the face of issues. If you know how to handle issues, uptime is not a big deal, but the learning curve can be steep if you are just getting into it. Welcome to hackintosh!
