Solved: it was something I had mounted. A sparse bundle and when I removed the .DS_Store and .Trashes in that bundle the Finder doesn't barf on my root filesystem. Seems odd, but that appears to be the thing. I found it by clicking on the label for the sparse bundle, then the same thing...

One other tidbit of info: This morning I updated the Cuda drivers via the System Prefs to version 7.0.35 and the system immediately hung hard. I had to hit the reset button. The Finder crashes started sometime after this.

Minor fix made to root filesystem, Finder still crashes. Other ideas?

That is the HD for my hack under Devices in the Finder. Running 10.9.5. I removed /System/Library/Caches, /Library/Caches and /Users/$USER/Library/Caches. Killed Finder. Still happens. Ideas?

Is there any hope this will ever be fixed? The last many versions behave this way on my hack. I'm on 10.9.3. Everything else works swimmingly.

Is there a workaround?

Decided to stick with SW RAID 1. I'm pretty sure it'll be easier to upgrade with the SW version. Also, I was able to boot from the HW partition, but got an error into the boot of the kernel about waiting for the root device. Searching around didn't find any solutions, so I'd rather not waste...

I have a Highpoint 3620 that I use for a big RAID 6 array, but I'd like to put the RAID 1 on it, too. The first attempt didn't work. I'm gonna re-try it with the above knowledge under my belt and see if I can get it to work.
