Hello there guys

I have a pretty simple question, any body that can give any good advise how to assembly the "inner" and outer case of a Powermac/G5 case without scratching the hell out of it ?

I have painted it by my self, but made quite a few scratches to it when trying making it fit again without any luck.

No matter what i did, i couldnt get the side marked with circle to fit, i wouldnt align at all as the only one, what im doing wrong

Any help would be appreciated

Reassembly of the outer shell to the assembled inner core is tricky and I initially struggled with reassembly.

So over time and several rounds of assembly I found that I needed to spread the outer shell enough to slip the inner core into place. To do this I made up a set of jack sticks that I used to spread and hold the outer core open.

Over time I added padding to the ends of these jack sticks to keep them from marring the finish.

And I used lots of painters blue tape in an attempt to minimize the damage during the modding process. I avoided changing the base color of the Power Mac so that I could use paint to improve the appearance.

And I finally got to the point that I see the scuffs and scars as badges of honor on the SOS (System on Slides). And as an aside, I don't intend to do another Power Mac or Mac Pro project.

But I do enjoy reading about and seeing a great hack.

Good modding,
neil

When I reassembled my system last, I basically just pulled the two feet far enough in order to slip the interior in. It surprisingly takes a lot of force, but doesn't permanen damage the case. Just remember to screw the case back together with a lot of force otherwise you'll end up with a gap in between the door and the feet.

Thanks for the advice.

i think i will try it out on my spare case first, because i was getting really annoyed by it

The way I did it took two people; it involved one person spreading the feet/handle frame open like a mouth, then I placed some towels over the sharp edges, and pulled the center bit out like dentures. It worked pretty well, having a second person made it so much easier. It almost seems like you are going to bend the outside frame too much, but it is surprisingly resilient.

I got it assembled again by bending the outer shell as suggested

And this is the result so far

I installed the "special" screws on my dvd drive and trying to mount it to the top shelf and it didnt fit in any way

Is it just thats unlucky or is it only certain drives that fit ?

I'm pretty sure you're just unlucky, i compared a few optical drives and they all have the same mounting holes as the OG optical drive
