Hey Guys,
First i want to say that my project is NOT A REPLICA of neilhart's Shortstack Powermac G5, ( http://www.tonymacx86.com/powermac-g5/93348-neilharts-g5-short-stack-powermac-g5-mod.html )
I also had the idea of a Smaller G5 Case, because i actually do not need this much space like in a stock G5.
So i planned my idea in my head
After some time i purchased a used and damaged case for 23€ on ebay, delivered in a Mac Pro carton :)

The fun began !
First i started the conversation of the PSU, i've trimmed it 14cm

all the components i used were cheap and most of them lay around in my garage, so you can call this a low budget Mini Mac G5

then i went over to the actual challenge of making a tiny case.
i do not have the right equipment for cutting clean edges with my jigsaw, so it is not at a high quality level.

Here some pictures of the project.

i cutted the case in 4 pieces and reduced the measurements 13cm :)

Today i started to connect the frame with the case and it looks pretty okay

Also the PSU fits perfectly :)

I forgot to show you a picture of the rear ;)

Here my Hardware :
Asrock H61 Board with an Intel Celeron G1610 , 4gb Ram and a 8800gt :)
All on ebay for 70€

Future plans :
-Mounting a supporting sheet on the other side for Motherboard standoffs and more stability
IMG_20130704_134045.jpg
-Filling the gaps with something i do not know :?:

-Trimming the outer case and connecting it with the inner case

-Painting.... black, white i do not know but for this decision there is so much time.

I would look forward for your opinions, ideas and feedback :)

Please forgive me for my poor englisch :roll2:

Greetings Yannich

Yannich - I am very pleased to see your "Mini G5 Case" project. I can really appreciate the re-engineering work that you are doing.

Our efforts will probably encourage others to take on similar projects. While I generally think that bigger is better, when it comes to computer cases, the better designed small case makes much more sense to me.

Good hacking,
neil

looks great..something like a mix betwen a Shuttle/ Lian Li PowerHack G5 ..

the 8800GT is a really good card, you could just upgrade the CPU to a C2D..

greets

Looking great! It doesnt matter if replica or not, I WANT MORE OF THESE "mini" versions of the desktop series! Great job, and i'm glad you guys keep us updated!

the Celeron G1610 appears to be a socket 1155, but that still gives tons of upgrade room for later.
