Hello fellow modders!

Im new to this forum, and i recently got a free Powermac G4 Graphite from a friend. My uncle offered to paint the case in a nice matte pearly white, along with a black apple logo. I already stripped the case for components, and as other post say, i need to place new stand-offs for the motherboard, as i plan to use a gigabyte micro-ATX mobo. My question for you guys is:

How should i approach the removal and reinstallation on the mobo stand-offs?

I removed the cd-drive, as well as the cd-drive bay, and im not planning on reinstalling it, so RAM hitting the drive won't be a problem, but will a regular ATX-board fit? I know it has been done, but not sure about airflow, and overall space in the case. Time isn't an issue, so ill take my time on the tonymacx86 forums.

Any tips for a starter? Im 16, so this is new for me.

Cheers!

Just rip the standoffs off with a locking pliers, they are press fit into the case and will leave holes slightly larger than the standoffs themselves. The G4 only has 4 PCI brackets so there isn't any reason to go with a full ATX board in a G4 case.

Thanks for replying! I guess i'll have to go for a micr-ATX mobo then. Found some standoffs in an old case, so ill probably epoxy those to the case. I'll try to post pictures of the progress, when the case have been painted!

You can also drill holes and tap them with a 6-32 tap, the tap and handle set is usually $5-10 and well worth it for modding as 6-32 is pretty much the standard screw size for PCs.

The case is now painted! I am lucky enough to have an uncle, who runs his own paintingbuisness, and he did an amazing job on the "stormtrooper" look. I'll post some pictures, so you can admire his work. I also talked to a friend, who just bought a GTX 680, so i can get his "old" 660ti, fairly cheap. An update will come in the near future. After quite a while, summer has arrived! That means time for modding!
In the meanwhile, i aquired an old Antec 300 case for free, (great!), and i stripped it apart. I am now planning the inside out, and i think i'll go for two 140 mm's in the bottom of the case, and one 140 in the front. I also went ahead and yanked out the power and reset switch, along with front USB's and audio/mic jacks. Always handy!

Anyway! Heres some pictures of what i looted from the Antec! Expect an update in the near future!

Cheers bud's!

So here's another update. Today i aquired half a squaremeter of plexiglass, and started making a motherboard standoff plate. I was worried about cutting and drilling the plexi, but after a bit of research i began cutting. My plexi plate is about 3mm, and therefore it luckily didn't crack!

I then drilled holes for standoff's and carefully screwed them in. Im giving them a drop of epoxy too, just in case ;)

Anyway, here some pictures of the finished product. Next step: Aquire the hardware for the build. Also, as you see, the plate is for a mini-ITX board. Thats because i chooses that instead of the mATX, purely because of space ;)

Today my motherboard arrived! I went for an ITX board, specifically the Gigabyte H87N Wifi, its haswell. I know the support for haswell is limited at the moment, but i'd like to be futureproof. As you can see on the pictures, the plexiglass plate i made yesterday fits the board neatly. I might have to adjust a little, but i'm happy with it. Next step, order the rest of the gear and start building!

Just a question here. Im all planned out for components for the build, but my only concern is airflow? How do you think i should place my fans? Where to cut holes? And if so, is it enough with the one fan for the CPU in the sidepanel?

All suggestions are welcome, thanks again.
