Thank you, JamesGallagher, for the link correction. It has changed several times since I initial wrote my Installation Notes.
Quite a job keeping it up to date I'm sure (very much appreciated though). Figured it was useful to note anything that might cause another person pause

I am not familar with the "USB ownership" setting. You stated that you need to modify the UniBeast created USB Installation thumb drive after you installed El Capitan. Is that correct? Or after you created installation thumb drive?
USB Ownership is in the Clover boot loader Options > PCI devices menu and was a point noted by Rehabman and others (I'll have to come back later with a link to the thread) when you encounter a hang while the installation thumb drive is loading the Apple install. The post installation step was just to make that selection permanent with Clover Configurator. I'll look into it further elsewhere on the forum as it doesn't relate to your GENE board (I don't want to derail!)

Hello all,

Joined this forum for some help on my first Hackintosh. Hoping someone can provide some assistance, first time tackling a project like this. Been following this guide since we share a mobo and cpu.

MB: Asus Gene Maximus VIII
Ram: 16gb G Skill Value
CPU: 6700k
GPU: 1070 (will worry about using integrated graphics with OS X later)
PSU: Corsair SF600

I get to step 4 of the Unibeast installation guide, at which point I plug my USB stick in and receive this message:

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

Please let me know if I can provide any more background info - I would greatly appreciate any help.

Make sure your UniBeast created installation USB thumb drive is in a USB 3 socket/plug in the same stack as the PS/2 connector plug on the Rear Panel. See my installation instruction in Post #1.

Yep, I made sure to put it in the bottom one in the same column as the PS2 port.

Initially, I always boot with USB installer thumb drive inserted. Go into the BIOS and and set the default start up disk as the UEFI installation thumb drive. I leave that setting for Part 1 and Part 2 of the installaton.

Try doing that if you haven't done that before.

Hi Stork,

I followed your guide very closely and everything worked so far "except" wake up from sleep. Computer has a quick response when i touch mouse or keyboard, however, the monitor still remains dark, might be a graphic card doesn't wake up from sleep (Asus R9 290). Can you please point me to the area that I need to check or reset? Thanks in advance.

Hi Mezter
I have a very similar issue to yours and have a managed to get most of parts of the build up and running.

I am running this on a Z170 Asus Maximus VIII Hero with 6700K CPU, Asus GTX980Ti Poseidon and 16 Gig of Corsair Dominator Ram.
Following Storks guide I managed to successfully install OS X El Capitan and resolved some issues and now my my dual monitors are working from DVI HDMI and Display port, on board 530 GPU seem to work very well too but I use the nVidia GPU, Ethernet is also working as expected. I am booting directly from the Clover Boot screen on the hard drive, and have the option to boot windows 10 as well.
I had some trouble to get the Audio working as it could not find any devices in sound options at all, I tried:
- Changing the Devices / Audio / Inject setting in config.plist from 3 to 1
- Used KextBeast to inject the Codec-Commander Kext as in the instructions.

What finally resolved it was by re-running the Clover configurator, but this time only setting the options for Audio.
Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALC1150
Drivers > Audio > 100 Series Audio
