Hey all,

I recently finalized my installation of El Cap on the Dell Inspiron 15 7559 (Dell i7559-2512blk) laptop...

I thought it would be interesting and challenging for me to try to get macOS Sierra on this laptop ...

Luckily, I WAS able to make an installer and pretty much use the same files from my El Cap install, and now I am successfully booted into macOS Sierra. There are a lot of problems with it though, and I am lost at where to start...

The main issue I'm having right at the moment is, where are the boot logs stored!? They're not in system.log OR Console anywhere! (as far as I can tell)
So does anyone know where the boot logs are stored?:think:

Also, another issue I'm having (multiple other people have reported this as well, on Sierra Desktop Support) is that there are a bunch of garbled pixels (black and white and flashing, etc.) in the top left corner of my screen. I have fully accelerated Intel HD Graphics 530 ... I'm assuming this is just a bug with the macOS Sierra PB4 that I'll have to live with, but if anyone else has any ideas / suggestions on solutions please let me know! :D

I'm looking forward to getting macOS Sierra to work on this!

Thanks all!

-Duncan

UPDATE:

I've gotten mostly everything to work now! Although I still can't find where the boot logs are ...
I had to partially disable SIP (0x3) (already done, but will mention it here), and apply a WiFi patch to get everything working (all of the other patches / fixes I need to get most things working on here were from my El Cap install)

WiFi Patch: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/312759-fix-macos-sierra-dp1-bcm94532z-wifi/

Now, here are the things that aren't working / that are weird:

1. Framebuffer glitches
There are still weird artifacts in the top left corner of my screen. I was able to capture some (seemingly) relevant boot log data by running sudo dmesg (only way I can get any part of boot logs, they've seemed to have just disappeared off of ASL entirely :p):
Code:
Setting BTCoex Config: enable_2G:1, profile_2g:0, enable_5G:1, profile_5G:0
kPEDisableScreen 1
bool IOAccelDisplayPipe2::init_framebuffer_resource(uint32_t, IOAccelResource2 *): getPixelInformation for framebuffer 0 failed
bool IOAccelDisplayPipe2::init_framebuffer_resource(uint32_t, IOAccelResource2 *): getCurrentDisplayMode for framebuffer 1 failed

Other users have reported this same issue, though, so I think it's just an issue with the PB ...

2. All multimedia keys have stopped working
As it says, most of my multimedia keys have stopped working (where you need to press Fn + multimedia key). They don't have any impact anymore. This affects volume control, backlight control, and pretty much all multimedia keys except brightness up/down, as those've been mapped to F11 and F12 through System Preferences and I don't need to hold down the Fn key to trigger them.

3. Trackpad prefpane is gone (?)
As it says, the trackpad prefpane is pretty much gone (although I still can use mouse and scroll, albeit it's very rough and finnicky). I've heard around that this is an issue with the PB, so this isn't too much of a concern for me ...

4. Shutdown and restart don't seem to be working sometimes (rare)
Sometimes whenever I click Apple Logo > Shutdown / Restart, it closes everything, but nothing happens ...

I'll keep doing research and trying to solve all of these problems as time goes on ...

Other than that, most things seem to be working!
If you guys have any ideas / suggestions on any fixes, please let me know! Thank you!:D

UPDATE 2:

I've been able to fix part of Issue 2, Issue #3 and Issue #4:

Part of 2 & 3. The developer of the touchpad/PS2/keyboard kext I used has updated their version to enable all features in macOS Sierra and added preferences in the plist so that you don't need the prefpane. It's the ApplePS2SmartTouchPad.kext version 4.6.5. Most multimedia shortcuts work again with this update as well except audio up/down/mute (Apple might be rewriting their audio drivers in macOS Sierra?)

4. This was caused by Google Chrome hanging whenever I shutdown / restart

p.s. may not be able to update for a while as school has started for me and I've gotten extremely busy ...

UPDATE 3:

I just updated to macOS Sierra GM by using native download from App Store and then restart into installer to install ... Here are my observations / issues:

1. Make sure to rebuild caches! If you're using the WiFi patch after you install it may/may not break, but if it does 'break', make sure to rebuild caches!

2. Graphical glitches are still present in some places the same as it was in PB 7. (Shame, I thought it would've been fixed by now :lol:but its alright) I'm running Intel HD Graphics 530.

2. Trackpad prefpane is still missing ... maybe it'll be included in the official release of macOS Sierra?

Issues:

1. Audio's not working: my injector kext 'AppleHDA_ALC256.kext' won't load on boot ... any suggestions?

EDIT: Issue #1 solved - simple cache rebuilding did the trick

Can you describe your install steps? Or at least share your CLOVER folder that you used to install Sierra. I have very similar laptop - Dell XPS 9550 with 6700HQ Skylake. And i can't even reach install screen - always kernel panic. With same clover setup El Capitan installer works just fine. Thank you!

Boot verbose, show photo. Attach EFI/Clover folder as ZIP (omit 'themes' folder).

Audio works for me. Do you have these 2 patches to AppleHDA.kext?

Injector not loading was a minor issue and everything's working now ... :D
I do have those two patches.

Thanks though!

Mobo: manufacturer/model + bootloader(Clover/Chameleon/Chimera)
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
Mobo: HP ProBook 4540s (Clover)
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx), and graphics capabilities. For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.

Note: When specifying your bootloader, if using Clover legacy, please be sure to specify "Clover legacy"). Specifying "Clover" will be assumed as "Clover UEFI"
