The Demise of the iPhone Headphone Jack Hasn't Been Greatly Exaggerated !

Surely there will be an adaptor which converts lightening connector to a 3.5mm jack plug?

Probably not, since Lighting is digital, and the 3.5mm "phone" connector is analog. If you look it up, the TRS connector is 100 years old - its time for it to go the way of the 1.4MB floppy.

always the same story, you have to buy expensive adapters (and you must carry them with you all the time)

Remember when the 30pin was replaced with Lightning adapter? The transition really wasn't that tough, and we all managed to survive. In fact, if I have to use a 30pin i cringe.

Same will happen with 3.5mm headphone jack. Lets be honest here, it is antiquated technology, and we are listening to digital music on a digital device, should we not also have digital headphones to listen at a better quality?

When I got my retina MBP in 2012 it was Apple's first MBP without a CD drive. There were a few people who thought that would be the end of the world, and for some maybe it was. It has been an absolute non-issue for me.

Exactly, Apple is typically the innovator when it comes to things like this. Watch as most other phone designs will follow suit.

Apples only innovation here is the removal of the Headphone-Jack. If you can call that Innovation. Its bad that all focused on the removal of a port and not how they think its going to be better.

Bluetooth or even Wifi isn't simply going to cut it for Audiophiles even when it comes to high cost Earphones. Its like this for years. It's simply a flawed technology to date for Audioquality.

Lightning-Adapter and Digital-Ports - TBA. Macbook Pro TBA. iPad TBA. 5k Diplay TBA. And when was the MacPro upgraded last time? Lets just wait for it MAYBE they'll come maybe they'll not. At least previously Apple delivered without announcing their stuff. Now its several cycles later and there arent any announcements let alone deliverments.

The abdunance of new Macbook (Pros) being announced, the Thunderbolt-Display being canceled this year with no replacement - all these arent good signs and many people, even some usual die hard fans, see it that way.

If Tim Cook took anything from Steve Jobs its the bad parts like the arrogant behaviour - certainly not the Smartness which made this company big.

I don't mind losing the headphone jack, but I think for the sheer fact that you have to charge another set (the AirPods) is kind of ridiculous.

For $159 I can buy way better headphones. I am in the minority though as I have high end headphones like the Audeze LCD-3 and tube amps.

I really don't see the headphone jack as the same thing as removing the floppy drive. The floppy was on the way out and CDR was taking over at the time. Headphones are different, and in fact the headphone is an analog piece of equipment.

This is exactly true. I just saw a youtube video where someone posted Steve Jobs calling the removal of Adobe Flash support "courage" to move forward, defending the removal of the headphone jack. The difference, of course, is that flash was notorious for crashing and security flaws, and almost weekly users got "your flash is out of date" messages making it a continual PAIN. The headphone jack has NONE of those type of flaws. I think if Apple had justified this as "we're moving to compatibility" and replaced the Lightning port with USB-C, people would be less miffed.

Apple will never use USB-C on their iDevices because they make tons of money on the MFI licensing programme and also they like complete control when it comes to jacks on the iDevices. Also it seems Lightning is much less prone to cracking than USB-C.

I think only time will tell how the removal of the headphone jack will do as it seems that people are pre-ordering the iPhone 7 like hotcakes.
