Hi all,

Brand new install of 10.11.6 on my Asus Z170 Pro Gaming mobo. Got all the std kexts in place. Not sure whats causing these spontaneous reboots. Running Nvidia Web Drivers on GTX 950.

Any help much appreciated. As I said this is a clean install and suddenly started occuring after a few hours. Now it happens all the time.

UPDATE3:

After many hours of testing I finally managed to get a stable system working. It looks like the default settings for the Ballistix Sport memory dont work properly with the Z170 Pro Gaming Mobo.

I now have it stable !!!!

Under Ai Tweaker in the BIOS (version 1904 in my case)
I enabled XMP (I realise this is an overclocking profile, but hey it works!)
Set the CPU VCCIO Voltage up to 0.99v (It was on Auto and running at 0.96v)
Set the CPU System Agent Voltage to 1.1v (It was on Auto and running at 1.064v)

UPDATE4:

My excitement was short lived.... 12 hours of stable operation and then it all went to hell again :(

The only way I can have stable operations now is to use a single DIMM. I have ordered some other memory and will try again, but my patience is starting to wear thin :(

FINAL UPDATE:

I ended up scrapping the Crucials and went for Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3000MHz DDR4. They have been stable for almost a year now :D

Here is a dump from the crash report:

UPDATE: This all seems to be related to my memory. After all the crashes I ran memtest and saw a bunch of errors straight away. Its almost as if OSX is inducing the errors, but its hard to say as this is a new build and havent run Windows on it for any length of time. If I switch off my machine and restart the memory test runs clean. There is something buggy between my particular memory (Crucial Ballistix Sport 2400MHz) and my Asus Z170 Pro Gaming mobo running 1904 BIOS.

UPDATE2: Running stable using a single 8GB DIMM and XMP settings in Asus Z170 Pro Gaming mobo with 1904 BIOS. If I use both DIMM's it all goes to hell.

Having scoured the net , it seems to be a common theme with a number of users having crashes and freezes when using an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard and Crucial Ballistix Sport memory.

I also have a RAM problem with the Asus Z170-P. I cannot put any RAM in slots DIM_A1 and DIM_A2. If I do then the computer appears to start but with no video. I think this is a problem with these Z170 Boards as I have just watched a video of somebody with a Z710-P D3

)

with exactly the same problem.

I am thinking of returning it to Amazon and switching to a Gigabyte.

My excitement was short lived.... 12 hours of stable operation and then it all went to hell again :(

The only way I can have stable operations now is to use a single DIMM. I have ordered some other memory and will try again, but my patience is starting to wear thin :(

Did you get this sorted out?
I'm just about to order some memory for my build with the Z170 Pro Gaming board, and I could use some good advice, since it seems there are heaps of problems with this particular mobo and memory. I'm looking at having 2x16gb sticks, so i could upgrade to full 64gb when i can afford that.

I ended up scrapping the Crucials and went for Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3000MHz DDR4. They have been stable for almost a year now :D

Hello guys,

I've been having very similar issues to the ones described in the OP, but actually worse: my PC started with reboots and ended up freezing when it was rendering (I use it for architecture visuals). And when I say freezing, I mean freezing as in display, mouse, keyboard and even sound (if listening to music, it stopped at a certain sound and kept buzzing). The only thing that I could do is power it off, by long pressing the power button(restart button wouldn't work either).

My configuration was:
Mobo: Asus Z170-A
CPU: I7-6700K 4Ghz
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 32GB DDR4 2400 Mhz
SSD: Kingston HyperX Savage 240 GB SATA-III
Case: Antec P280
CPU cooler: Arctic-Cooling Liquid Freezer 240
PSU: Chieftec APS-750c 750W

After over one year with problems, and after first thinking that my RAM was the fault, I ended up discovering (not me per se, an IT service) that the problem was the PSU, which was subdimensioned aparently...

After changing it with a Corsair RM1000x, my system is finally stable and I managed to go through rendering times of over 12 hours without problems. :D

Hope it helps!
