Big List of Solutions for El Capitan Install Problems

Status

Hardware:
Gigabyte GA-X584-UD5 F7
i7-970
radeon hd 6870

I followed the install guide for el capitan and everything seemed fine. I migrated my files over and restarted and now once it loads back to the apple logo and progress bar it auto restarts.

Any ideas on the problem?

Thanks

Install again but do not format the drive - All of your data should remain intact.

I think we need to fix the list:

In the Kernel Panic sections, there is an issue known as
  • If it's a panic just after ACPI: sleep states S3 S4 S5, that's come up a few times, but no clear solution yet
Fortunately, we have found a cure on the following url. I have verified this works. The issue is present only with a small percentage of users who had used chimera or chameleon (which maked the System/Library/Extensions very dirty) And some kexts are incompatibile or not valid. So if you changed to clover at some point, everything still worked because OSX does not seem to care. BUT after you do the first update, on the next reboot, OSX will seem to try to rebuild kext cache as a part of "seasonal cleaning" and will fail... Removing the corrupted kexts fixes it in a heartbeat :)

Please update the top post.
P.S. The initial poster elton made a mistake, so be sure to read the very next response from richdooz, who noticed.

How to fix:
Can't boot from disc drive after install
Blank Screen when disc drive is selected as the boot option

Procedure:
Menu: Go -> Utilities -> Terminal.app
Navigate inside terminal window
type the command: diskutil list

It should look something like this:

Find "Apple_HFS El Capitan", read to the right:
Identifier is disk3s2 in my example.
Write it down on a piece of paper, if necessary.

Find "Apple_HFS UniBeast Installer", read to the right:
Identifier is disk4s2 in my example.
Write it down on a piece of paper, if necessary.

Run EFI Mounter
Mount disk4s2 ("Apple_HFS UniBeast Installer", mount diskXXX (for you))
EFI window opens up.
Create new folder on your desktop. Name it whatever you like. Open the folder you just created.

Copy contents of the EFI partition to the Desktop

Close EFI Mounter
Right Click the EFI disc icon on the Desktop: Eject "EFI"

Run EFI Mounter
Mount disk2s2 ("Apple_HFS El Capitan", diskYYY (for you))

Open Desktop EFI folder that you copied to your new desktop folder (named whatever you named it to.)
Right Click/Copy Boot Folder
Navigate to the mounted EFI folder ("Apple_HFS El Capitan"), open folder
Right Click/Paste. Replace.
Navigate back to Desktop EFI Folder. Navigate to Clover folder.
Right Click/Copy all files

**** If your config.plist file(s) has/have already been created or modified (they will reside inside your disc EFI/Clover folder), copy all the files from the desktop copy folder but NOT the config.plist files. Move the desktop EFI config.plist file(s) outside your desktop saved EFI folder to your desktop. Highlight all the files in the desktop Clover folder, right click/copy.

Navigate to the mounted EFI window, navigate to the Clover folder, right click/paste:replace.

Close the disc Clover folder, close the EFI folder, close the EFI window.
Right click/close the EFI disc on your desktop.

Move back the config.plist file(s) your previously moved back to your copied/desktop EFI folder, into the Clover folder. (In case it should happen again you'l have them handy.)

Shutdown the PC.

Remove the USB stick. Secure it in a safe place.

Power up the PC.

It should boot. But if you had updated Clover and Clover Configurator, you will have to install them again (files will be saved to the disc EFI partition.)

If this is your first time booting from the disc drive you have the option of running MultiBeast or Installing Clover Configurator and Clover. It's probably easier to run MultiBeast, reboot, make sure everything is working correctly, then install Clover Configurator and the latest version of Clover. You would then mount the EFI partition through EFI Mounter, navigate to the Clover folder in the disk and double click the config.plist file. All changes will then automatically be saved to the disk.

You probably need to re-run MultiBeast and make sure that you selected the correct disk drive to write it's files to. When you start MultiBeast you have to first, and foremost, select UEFI or Legacy bootloader. You then select any options asyou work your way from the left tabs to the right, select the disk drive to save the files to and then hit the Build button.

Is disk0 really an external drive? If so, what happens when you disconnect it and try to boot from the internal drive?

As far as deleting and re-creating an EFI partition, the hard way would be to run Linux LiveCD or LiveUSB, run gparted, delete the paritions, apply, exit, then reboot into UniBeast to install the system. The second way would be to boot from UniBeast, go into Disk utilities, erase the disk, creata single partition, GUID, exit, resume UniBeast installation. The third way may be to mount the EFI partition, delete all the files in the EFI partition, download Clover and Clover Configurator, run Clover, select the drivers needed as mandatory, write it out to the EFI partition, reboot. Once you know that it now boots from the disk drive you can then use Clover Configurator to make changes to the config.plist file.
