Mac Pro 2006 1.1 running El Capitan - GPU options expanded?

Yes I do. I have a hackintosh as well as a MacBook Pro running El Capitan.

So will that video show me how to get it ready to install while I have the 7300 GT in the Mac Pro and then when I go to restart it the first time I just pop in the 960 or 970?

That's the dilemma I'm having.

Can you attach the SSD externally to the MacBook?

And are you gonna install Yosemite or El Cap on the 2006?

ps can't instal Yose/El cap with that card

I can't because I don't have an adapter. I plan on installing El cap on it preferably but Yosemite would be fine as well.

However I've installed El Capitan on other macs just with a USB boot drive. Is that what you're getting at?

Well I just found installing Elcap on the SSD as an external drive via my MacBook before putting it into the MP2006 was quickest, then just change the efi files - simples. There are lots of ways to do it - even a hackintosh method.

In fact you could attach the SSD to the macbook using Target Disk mode!

This thread has a script to do it all for you too - here

either way you'll need a supported gpu when you get it going.

Actually it's really easy if you have a clean install of say Yosi - just means replacing 2 system files with Pikes boot.efi.

The only bit i got stuck on was deleting the original boot.efi files out of the system.

replace with new boot.fi here:

/volumes/Yosemite/usr/standalone/i386

/volumes/Yosemite/system/library/coreservices

To delete core boot.efi….

3. Go back to Terminal and copy and paste the following:
sudo rm -rf
Do NOT press ‘Return’. Instead, press the Spacebar once, then use your cursor to drag the boot.efi file
