Hi guys,

I tried out El Capitan for my desktop pc. It worked almost fine but I got tired of struggling to make it work perfectly. When I wanted to boot a windows 7 cd, I got "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" error. I thought maybe the cd wasn't working so I prepared myself a bootable usb drive for Win 7. This solution didn't work either, I got the same error. I want to completely wipe my hard drive and install windows from scratch. I flashed BIOS to the latest version and did the load optimized defaults process.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion but I'll stick with win 7 for now :). I don't have access to a Windows computer right now so I can't use Rufus. I guess my computer is trying to boot from my hard drive no matter what I do. I formatted the drive from the recovery so there isn't any OS installed on the drive right now, yet I can't boot from my usb drive

Anyhow, I solved my problem by
  • Creating a new El Capitan boot usb drive
  • Formatted the hard drive and re-installed El Capitan
  • Transferred my Win 7 iso to my Customac
  • Burned the iso to a new empty dvd
  • Install Win 7 as usual
