After releasing Security Update 2015-002 last week, yesterday Apple released yet another update, Security Update 2015-003 1.0 for OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite. Update any supported system using the built-in Software Update functionality through the Mac App Store, or by using the standalone installer available from Apple.com.

Again, this update is unlike other Security Updates as it contains an updated kernel and OS X build number (14C1514). This requires the system to reboot after installation, and can cause issues for those using a patched kernel or alternate NVIDIA drivers. Please read through the following.

NVIDIA Alternate Drivers
If you run the NVIDIA Alternate Drivers for 10.10.2, this update changes the OS X build number to 14C1514. Therefore the NVIDIA drivers package doesn't recognize it as a valid OS version.

NVIDIA has now updated their alternate drivers package for this build:

Kernel
If your system requires a patched kernel in order to provide enhanced support for X99 systems, it may need to be re-patched. You may need to boot into the UniBeast installer in order to use the Terminal to re-patch the kernel. Please follow the instructions here for full details:

Good luck!

OSX Security Update 20015-003 1.0

Any other issue?

Can we notify NVidia about this?

OSX Security Update 2015-003 1.0

I've updated, and now I'm experiencing random freezes. I think I'll restore from a backup and wait for smarter people to figure it out.

UPDATE - I've restored from a SuperDuper backup and everything is back to normal. There's definetly something is this update that affects system stability.

OSX Security Update 2015-003 1.0

I am also super weary of running this after spending something like 5-6 hours in total trying to recover from failed 2015-002 update. Puts a new perspective on the risk of running "simple" security updates on hackintosh...

OSX Security Update 2015-003 1.0

The update to 2015-002 is what brought on the random freezes for me. I change the system definition back to MultiBeast's default of MacPro3,1 and so far no freezes.

I was using the system definition for iMac 27" late 2013 with the freezes.

OSX Security Update 2015-003 1.0

Of course I did it like I an idiot because I had no issues with the last security update. Definitely regretting this as I just got a 40" 4k60 TV/Monitor (My Seiki would never work with the 970)
If you change the definition as outlined here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/...-2015-003-breaks-nvidia-web-driver-again.html
It seems to fix the problem.

Will update if I get random freezes (did not have this problem after last update).
