Gigabyte H87N [10.9.2] » Wake On LAN

Hi, I am very happy with my first hackintosh server.

Everything I need works, except one thing; Wake On LAN

I have NO wireless connections. So everything I talk about is wired.

I searched the internet for information and these are the things I checked first:

I tried some things, and these didn't work:

  • Killer ALXEthernet v1.0.2 kext
  • AtherosL1cEthernet 1.2.3 kext
  • system definition MacMini 6,2
  • in com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist added: -UseInternalSleepProxy 0
  • in com.apple.PowerManagement.plist changed: PrioritizeNetworkReachabilityOverSleep 1
    this prevented sleep altogether.

The senario:

When I sit at my MacBook, I see an 2011 iMac (sleeping) in the Network. I can wake that up just fine.
When my H87N Hackintosh falls beautifully asleep, it disappears from the list of computers in the network (in Finder on the MacBook)
Also, can't wake it with Remote Desktop on my MacBook

Further information:
Router Ubee EVW320b
Switch ZyXEL GS-108B v2
I don't believe these should be a problem

How do I tackle this problem?
Any ideas or new approaches to solve my problem?
Many thanks in advance!

Update:

The issues are solved or figured out, read the thread.

Nothing? No idea?

Sad...

Pcace

I was watching the thread hoping for a solution. I use ARD as well to wake computers and have the same motherboard.

Still working on the problem, but no solution.

Found out that AtherosL1cEthernet 1.2.3 kext doesn't support the Atheros AR8161. (Although it is stated that it should:"Adds support for the AR81(31/32/51/52/61/62/71/72)", this post says otherwise)
Checked that F4 is the latest BIOS for GA-H87N rev. 2.0 (F5 for rev. 1.x)
Checked that pmset -g cap displays: womp

Why does the Hackintosh disappear from the list of devices in the Network?

Is it going into a too deep of a sleep state?
Is the power to the ethernet adapter cut off?
Is there something wrong with the kext?
Does it work with OSX 10.9.1?

Checked RAM with bootable USB PassMark MemTest86 tool.
100% Certain that RAM is OK. (better test than doing it in OSX)

In verbose (-v) booting I got a message that appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext may not be fully compatible. I'm gonna explore that further with my current 10.9.2 installation.

(In the meantime it crossed my mind that I may switch the board for a ASRock Z87E-itx, for the eSata is built-in and the CPU is in a better position for my extreme small case. But this Hackintosh stuff is pretty addictive, so I may just build another one!)

Gigabyte H87N [10.9.2] » Wake On LAN

I installed 10.9.1 at the moment.
And still,.. no Wake on Lan support.

Been reading a lot while looking for hints.

This caught my eye in the log:

: ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out
: WARNING: ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin - getCPUIDInfo unknown CPU model 0x3c
: -- power management may be incomplete or unsupported

So I fought
AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext for a while. That didn't seem to do much.
But then it got more complicated; I saw that rehabman talked about Haswell doesn't use AICPM to do power management, but that the kernel did that. So patched my kernel. And read about other criteria. Still no WOL...

 C-states, LPC, SSDT... I'm in over my head.

Any real connaisseur that can help me out!?

And I was thinking that I was building the easiest Hackintosh there was. And the ONLY thing that needed to work (WoL) didn't seem to work!!! Arghhhh!
:banghead:

Small big breakthrough!

These log entries got me thinking:
Code:
configd[19]: arp_client_transmit(en1) failed, Network is down (50)
configd[19]: DHCP en1: ARP detect ROUTER failed, arp_client_transmit(en1) failed, Network is down (50)
First i thought that my switch or router couldn't handle the OSX WOL stuff correctly, but all my other macs do perfectly fine.

Been reading about Bonjour Sleep Proxy (external link)
And I have setup a real mac as a BSProxy as a test (also had to set it to never sleep (so just for testing!))
(there are no AppleTV's or Airport Extreme's on my local network, those are automatic BSProxies, also while sleeping)

And there we go!
I can Wake On LAN !!!

I was planning to buy an AppleTV soon. I think that is coming real soon then.

Two things remain unanswered:

  1. Why do all my real Macs can do this stand-alone (without an always-on external device)? Maybe there is something else i can do to enable this on my hackintosh.
  2. Can I, or HOW can I, make the hackintosh go to sleep even when (pmset -g assertions):
    PreventSystemSleep 1
    Listed by owning process:
    pid (AppleFileServer): DenySystemSleep

With other words, point two: can the hackintosh go to sleep even though a shared folder connection to another computer is open? My 2006 Lion iMac can't do it. Our 2011 iMac Mavericks can.

I guess i'll play around with darkwake (after reading this).

more to come...

happy face :D
