Hi everyone

I'm planning on building a Hackintosh that boots both Mac and Windows. Mac for ProTools 10 and Windows for Gaming.

Earlier this year I built a PC for ProTools and I didn't follow the recommended hardware, therefore turning the build into absolute mess. I have been working on a 2009 imac for about 4 years now and I need an upgrade. So I thought I'd try working on a PC. I Just felt that ProTools was generally more clunky and thought that if I could get a duel booting Hackintosh to work and I would have best of both worlds!

Here is the Hardware I'm thinking of putting together (note the hardware in italics, I already own)
My main priority is stability, so there is a higher budget if it mean it would provide better stability.
I'm from the UK, so I can't use Newegg.

Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H ATX (is the UD5H worth the extra money)
i7-4770 3.4Hz (is it worth getting the K version)
16Gb Vengeance Corsair LP
GTX 770 2GB (overkill, but I love gaming)
Samsung 840 Pro 256Gb (for Mac)
240Gb Kingston SSD (for Windows)

2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Xfx Pro Black 750w
R4 Fractal Design
Custom CPU Cooler
Mbox 3 USB

What would be the best OSX for ProTools? From what I have researched Mountain lion seems stable.

I've read a lot on this forum and watched many videos. I feel confident I can do this, but this would be my first Hackintosh build.

I hope this is the right place to submit this thread and I would really appreciate some advice from you guys

Thanks in advance

I agree, Pro Tools does seem to function in a more "clunky" manner on PC (maybe its just me being used to PT on Mac).

My build:

i7-3770k
z77x-UD5H
16gb (8x2) Corsair Vengence
GTX 770 (runs Arma 3 on high/ultra just fine)
2x 128 gb SSD (windows and Mac)
1x WD 7200 RPM (sample library, storage and scratch disc for Reason/PT10)
OSX ML 10.8(.5?)

My build is stable although I had a bit of a struggle getting there. I ended up having to use chameleon to finish the SMC and motherboard install (for ethernet, graphics to be stable).

Mountain Lion definitely runs Pro Tools 10 the best. I haven't had any problems with either my hackintosh or my MBPro laptop. DO NOT USE MAVERICKS, PRO TOOLS WILL NOT WORK.

As for the motherboard, its really up to you. I went with the UD5H because I was following Slugnet's/BoomR's build. I can't say whether or not the UD5H is worth the extra $ but I can say that I have it and its stable. I'm sure if the UD3H is on the buyer's guide then it is also stable. I would suggest typing "z77x" into the search bar on Newegg and selecting both motherboards for comparrison and make your decision based on that.

Good luck with your build!

The only thing that does not work with ProTools10 on Mavericks is the ProTools de-installer. 10.3.8 and 10.3.9 is just fine. I run it for months already and i am a beta tester too. I haven't read any issues other then the de-installer/
What does not work for YOU on Mavericks with PT10?
