Hi Everyone! This is my first post on any forum ever. I didn't think I would have to post anything given the vast amount of help in this community but alas, Here I am.

I am trying to dual boot through clover with El Capitan and Windows 8.1 on separate SSD's. Having just installed Windows 8.1 with a USB that was created with Windows mediacreationtool, I have successfully installed both operating systems on each drive. However I have followed a basic outline(see below) and am stuck on step 11 and 12. After finishing the Windows install I proceeded to jump back into the UEFI BIOS to set Mac OSX as 1st and the Windows drive(Samsung 120GB) as 2nd. I was hoping I would find something like: UEFI Samsung 850 EVO 120GB but I only found the Legacy P3 version. I chose the P3 version as 2nd in boot order for the time being and rebooted only to get completely frozen at the GIGABYTE screen. Now, no matter what I do, when I reboot I get stuck at the GIGABYTE screen and can't delete into the BIOS. (Oh, and oddly enough, two of the boot option slots were blanked out for some reason - see picture below)

If someone could help I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Guide I Followed:

  1. Install OS X First
  2. Perform OS X Post Install
  3. Ensure OS X boots from SSD in Clover without the USB
  4. In UEFI BIOS (Sata Ports section) disable the OSX SSD then Save & Exit
  5. Insert Windows 10 USB media or CD/DVD media
  6. In the UEFI BIOS Boot Override section, make sure to select your boot media as e.g, UEFI: flash drive name
  7. Install Windows 10 (this will install in UEFI mode)
  8. Ensure Windows 10 boots from SSD without the install media
  9. Boot back into UEFI BIOS and enable the OSX SSD
  10. In UEFI BIOS, Set OSX SSD as First in the Boot Priority Order
  11. Set the Windows 10 SSD as 2nd in the Boot Order then Save & Exit
  12. Boot into Clover

You should now have OSX and Windows in the Clover Menu, both installed in GPT (GUID Partition Table) and both should boot from Clover as each OS has an EFI partition

That's how I did it and luckily, I never had the issues that others have experienced and I did this from scratch with both Windows 10 and Windows 7 before that.

Additional Note: UEFI BIOS:- please ensure both OSX and Win SSDs in your boot order are set as UEFI: SSD name. Do not use the Legacy versions e.g, P1: , P2:, P3; etc, as they do not support UEFI booting !

Is your OS X install on the UEFI OS P2: Samsung etc.? That is what it looks like to me, so set that as first and the Windows boot manager as second.

thanks for the reply!

I'm not sure if my El Capitan install is on UEFI OS P2: Samsung. I just always had "Mac OS X" first in the boot order. Both "Mac OS X" and "UEFI OS P2: Samsung" are listed as options to boot from but I am unsure of the difference.

I had to reset my motherboard so all the defaults are back. While I take your suggestion for the boot order, Can you link me to a list of the proper settings for my BIOS?
