I've scoured the net and have not found any detailed guides regarding creating a dual boot Yosemite, WIndows 10 clover system. I was hoping someone here can point me in the right direction to a tutorial that I may have missed or confirm my understanding of the various narratives i've found on the topic during my search. First my system stats:

Intel 4690k
ASROCK h97m pro4
Hyperx 8GB ram single DIMM
#1 EVO 850 120 GB
#2 EVO 850 120 GB ram
3 GB WD hard drive
Asus GEFORCE GTX 960 sc

with that out of the way, i managed to install Yosemite. I created the boot usb using unibeasty, Installed Yosemite, and went through post install using Clover EFIv2 installing for UEFI booting only and installing clover in the ESP. I have OSX yosemite booting on one of my EVO 850s via clover. Now I'm not completely clear on the easiest way to get windows 10 installed. Through various tips online, i get the impression that it is as easy as following these steps:

1) unplug osx yosemite drive
2) plug in windows 10 drive to be
3) boot to windows 10 USB drive
4)select disk management tool and delete all extra partitions if any
5) install windows 10 along with any updates
6) reconnect OSX drive

after reboot, Clover will detect windows 10 drive and its as easy as selecting OSX or Windows 10? is that all there is too it? Is there a recommended format that the windows 10 ssd should be formatted to? Also, if i want to use the 3gb hd for storage on both osx and windows, is there a recommended format (i.e. fat32 FAT etc?) or should I partition this seperately, one for OSX, on for windows 10?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yep thats pretty much it. Never tried win 10 tho, so you my come across some unknown problem.

Do you intend to share files across the OS's ? If you don't then just do separate partitions. If you want to share then FAT32 will work for both but does leave you with some limitation on file sizes and/or partition sizes I believe. There are also third party drivers to allow NTFS to be read/write in OS X.

thanks for the response. So just to confirm, once windows is installed on the seperate ssd, Clover will automatically read it without any setting changes? I only ask again because nothing in this hackintosh has been plug n play for me lol.

also, how about using exfat as the format for the storage drive if sharing across platforms? any disadvantages?

Hi wethead4,

as long as you install Windows 10 in UEFI mode then the Clover menu will see all Windows partitions and you can hide the unwanted partitions/drives with the help of Clover Configurator.

in your Boot Override options, you need to choose your USB with the prefix UEFI e.g, UEFI [usb name]

same when booting from Hard Drive, you need to choose your Boot Drive with the prefix UEFI e.g, UEFI [HDD name]

also disable 'Secure Boot' and allow your BIOS to support 'Other OS'

It's a good idea to update your BIOS to the latest stable version as this can sometimes resolve issues and add additional features to the UEFI settings.

With a 3TB drive, i would partition it in half for Mac OS Extended Journaled & NTFS cause i believe there is a limit to the file size when using FAT32 (although i may be wrong on that point ?)

Thanks, would exfat be viable for storage of say mp4s, mp3s, jpg etc that I would like to share between OSs?

Also, If i already have clover booting OSX yosemite successfully, all I have to worry about is installing win 10 usb in UEFI mode correct?

i have no experience of ExFat but like the OP defbref mentioned "There are also third party drivers to allow NTFS to be read/write in OS X" sorry that does not really answer your question?

Correct

I found this article written by Dave Girard in 2013 that explains the Pros and Cons of ExFat vs NTFS across OS platforms.

ExFat will handle all the files you listed (with no need to worry about file size limits) however there are other concerns to using ExFat that you should read about before deciding if ExFat is really for you ?

Thanks guys! successfully up and running with both partitions. ended up formatting 250gb to Mac osx extended journaled, and rest to NTFS. Now onto working on eliminating the extra boot options in clover.

2 other minor issues i'm having. Air play on my receiver keeps getting triggered by my hackintosh. anyway to turn this off? The other is that sometimes when I shutdown my hackintosh, the computer shutdowns, then after a few seconds auto reboots into clover. anybody experience this?
