I have a 100% working Chimera Mavericks install and a 100% working Clover Yosemite install.
I want to install Windows 7 on a separate external SSD without risking my working mackintosh installs.

Can anyone point me to a step by step guide to do this safely?

I would like the end result to be when I start the computer and the clover boot screen comes up, I want to be able to select Mavericks, Yosemite, or Windows 7.

Currently it shows the options to boot into either Mavericks or Yosemite.

Thank you for your advice and guidance!

Remove SSD from external enclosure.
Install it in your build.
disconnect your other drives - yes, all of them.
Install Windows - since you are using Clover it should not matter if it installs UEFI, but I would install it legacy mode anyway to limit the partitions to 2 instead of 4 or 5.
Update Windows and install a security suite. shut down
reconnect your OS X drives.
boot to BIOS and make the drive with Clover on it first in HDD BBS boot priority, save&exit, continue boot. Select an icon at the Clover boot screen to boot an OS.

Thank you so much for the info. That seems simple enough.
How should I format the SSD prior to install?

Also, any recommendations on a security suite?

Thanks

I use the free AV downloaded as an option from the Microsoft Update site combined with the Windows Defender firewall and Mal-Ware Bytes 3rd party software - https://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/lp4/02_r/?gclid=CIeahNHNscMCFUE2gQodoHQAyg

You can use the free version, but it is not realtime online protection - you have to manually scan.
The paid for version is on-line 24/7 protection and in only $25 for 3 PC's - well worth it IMHO.

I will be installing tomorrow.
I will let you know how it goes :)

Mission accomplished!
Installed Windows 7, updated, installed security suite, installed all hardware drivers, everything functioning perfectly.

On the other SSD I have Yosemite 10.10.2 running perfectly.

Thanks for the great advice!

Does this apply when installing Linux on a separate SSD also?

Thanks!

Yes, but some have reported problems with Clover not seeing the Grub boot loader. Since I quit keeping all of my OS drives connected and swap them out as needed at boot I have not experimented with a Linux distort and Clover.
Something I may do when I have some spare time, but not likely in the near future. Just got told Friday that it is back to 60 hour weeks until after the May maintenance cycle. Such is life in the world of contract engineering.

I went ahead and install Linux Mint on a separate SSD the same way I did the windows install.

After the install I reconnected the other drives, set OSX as first boot in BIOS, and restarted.
Clover came up and gave me 3 choices, OSX, Windows, and Linux.

Booted properly with all 3.

Triple Booting :)

Just had to install drivers for my wifi in Linux and pair my BT devices.
Linux Mint seems well configured. Everything working so far.

Thanks for your help!
