Hello All,

Am a new user here. First time trying to install OSX in my Desktop. I have read thru the forums and it has been very useful. Have few doubts. Looking forward for some help here.

My PC Config

- i7-4790K
- Asus VII Maximus Hero (UEFI based)
- 16 GB Corsair RAM
- 500 GB SSD for Win 8.1
- 250 GB SSD for OSX (untouched)

Current Scenario: I have installed Windows 8.1 and have been working on it without any issues. Now i want to install OSX on the 250 GB SSD.

Clarifications Required:

1) My friend has a Mac Book Pro with Mavericks already installed. So should i still download Mavericks from Apple Store or how should i proceed. Most of the articles in the forum i have read says either SL or ML as the base software and download Mavericks..In this scenario where Mavericks is installed how do i proceed

2) Since my MOBO is UEFI based. Understand i should use Clover as my Boot Loader. For clarification i should follow the standard steps of imaging OSX using Multi Beast and Uni Beast and then install Clover over it or use Clover to image Mavericks in the first place. Am confused. Some baby steps rwquired here please

3) Any specific commands i need to type in during installation taking into consideration my MOBO and Dual Boot situation. I read some features like Sleep may be disabled. That is fine with me. But want to ensure i want a clean install and my Windows should not get disturbed

4) If i use Clover as my Bootloader, is it possible to go into the BIOS screen after the install for any Overclocking in future. Any tweaking to the BIOS settings i hope does not disturb Clover installation. Any tips or points i should take care

5) Since i have installed Windows (which i will unplug during installation) after connecting back installing OSX should i go back to BIOS and change AHCI, SS3, HPET 64 bit settings. I read in one post before OSX installation change these settings. Can someone suggest me for Asus Board what these settings should be.

Do i need to take care of any other points. Experts please advice..

Hello All,

Before you go any further, first determine if Win8 is installed UEFI. Just because the BIOS is UEFI capable does not mean Win8 installed that way. Open disk management and examine your disk structure. You should see an EFi partition WinRE tools as the first partition if it is UEFI installed.
Second, determine by examining your current BIOS settings if AHCI is enabled. If it is not, then you need to boot to Win8 and enable it before continuing.

If you have access to a Mac that will download the install app, by all means, use it and create your Clover install USB.

2) Since my MOBO is UEFI based. Understand i should use Clover as my Boot Loader. For clarification i should follow the standard steps of imaging OSX using Multi Beast and Uni Beast and then install Clover over it or use Clover to image Mavericks in the first place. Am confused. Some baby steps required here please

You only must use Clover if you want to dual boot with Win8 installed UEFI. If Win8 is installed Legacy boot, then you can use Chimera/Chameleon.

Disconnect all drives except the OS X-to-be drive, then follow the steps in the Clover Guide - http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks...-how-install-os-x-mavericks-using-clover.html

3) Any specific commands i need to type in during installation taking into consideration my MOBO and Dual Boot situation. I read some features like Sleep may be disabled. That is fine with me. But want to ensure i want a clean install and my Windows should not get disturbed

Suggest you try the search function and see if anyone else has posted a build with a "what I did to get it working" section. Otherwise, start with -v so you can see the post and report intelligently if you have a problem. The statement "It stops at the apple screen with the spinning wheel" is worthless from a diagnostic point of view.

4) If i use Clover as my Bootloader, is it possible to go into the BIOS screen after the install for any Overclocking in future. Any tweaking to the BIOS settings i hope does not disturb Clover installation. Any tips or points i should take care

If you can get a stable OC in Win8, it should be OK for OS X.

You make these settings before installing OS X. Note that Win8 might not like the BIOS changes and require a re-install.

1. Load Optimized Defaults
2. Set Secure Boot Mode to Disabled
3. Set UEFI Mode to Other OS (not Windows 8 mode)
4. Set CFG-Lock to Disabled
5. Set SATA mode to AHCI if it is not already set AHCI.

Chances are on the new boards HPET is already enabled and set to 64 bit, but check the SS3 setting for sleep mode anyway.

Do i need to take care of any other points. Experts please advice..

Once installed and running, booting from SSD, shut down, reconnect the other drives, boot to BIOS and set the OS X SSD as first in the BBS boot order. Save&Exit.

Learn how to hide the non-bootable drive icons in the Clover boot screen after you figure out which one actually boots Win8.

Hi. Thanks for your guidance. It has been very useful for me. This is what i did today and facing few issues

I had Mavericks 10.9.4 downloaded and used Clover to create Boot Disk. Installed OSX on a fresh SSD as per directions. Installed successfully without any issues.

Had Audio output issues. Installed VoodooHDA and successful. Install Ethernet driver successfully. Also updated my Mavericks to 10.9.5

I tried to update the CPU/IGPU Power Management as per Piker-Alpha/ssdtPRGen.sh guidelines. I renamed the SSDT.aml file and pasted in my EFI Clover partition. Being a beginner am not sure what this does.

Can some please explain me in simple words what the script which i ran for SSDTPRGen delivers.

Also my Processor is not showing up correctly in the System Info. Refer Attached picture. Is there something am missing. I have Intel i7 4790K 4.0 GHZ processor.

Can the experts here help me in the final mile of my first every build of Hackintosh and set me on the right path. All other configs are showing correctly namely RAM, Graphics Card (770) and Monitor

Thanks

Richie

For questions on iGPU/CPU power management post in that forum.
You have to remember that your CPU has never been used in an iMac so the system can not identify it properly. By creating a smbios.plist with an iMac 14,2 system definition you can get closer (at least it will be a Haswell CPU)
