I managed to find a way to convert my boot drive to GPT from MBR without any data loss or needing to format anything. It was through AOMEI Partition Assistant. Everything indicates success. Everything on the Windows 8.1 side anyway. Since this conversion, I haven't been able to boot into Chimera and therefore, not OSX either. The only functioning option is Windows Boot Manager via UEFI. I have a G45-Z87 board that was successfully PMPatched. I should probably get another SSD so I can have one for Windows 8.1 and one for OSX, but until then, I've managed to dual boot both OSes on the same SSD with no issues (until now). I changed the partition table in order to prepare for the release of Yosemite.

I wonder now if Windows is going to throw a fit and mess itself up when the next big update comes around and it realizes that it's not on MBR anymore. Should I be worried about that? I have all system updates turn off until I manage to get that second SSD, so the couple can be fully divorced.

What should I do to get Chimera back up and running?

Thanks.

On the plus side - I can now sleep / hibernate my PC in Windows again. Woo hoo!

Chimera can't boot Windows UEFI and when you converted to GPT you probably screwed up the boot sector, which is why OS X will not boot.
Best to go ahead and get that other SSD now. If you want to boot Win8.1 UEFI you need to use Clover as your boot loader since Chimera can't boot Windows UEFI.

Do you think everything would go back to how it was if I were to convert back to MBR?

So I guess it's reconvert to MBR, reinstall OSX, and restore the most recent time machine backup.

At this point you would probably be better off reformatting the drive, restore OS X from TM backup and re-install Windows. Even better to get Windows a drive of its own.
