NEC / Renesas USB 3.0 Controller (Laptop Internal) [RESOLVED]

Thanks to this forum (and some others), my Dell Inspiron 17R N7110 laptop has been up and running 10.8 great for a while. No critical issues. I plan on posting a guide but want to wait until I try updating to 10.8.3 and see how things go.

Currently, the only major issue I have is USB 3.0 devices not working in my USB 3.0 ports. However, I can get USB 2.0 devices to work in the USB 3.0 ports. So the USB 3.0 ports do work, but not for USB 3.0 devices. So far I've been able to deal with this because my USB 3.0 drives are just being using for backups.

It's been a few months since I've checked up for new USB 3.0 supprot for NEC / Renesas. I did some searching and scanning through the interwebs but I'm having a difficult time finding anything about non-card based Renesas controllers (internal laptop controller).

Can anyone confirm if there is a working driver for internal NEC / Renesas USB 3.0 controllers on laptops? I read about the improvements in 10.8.2 for USB 3.0. Wasn't sure if that update would help my situation out, though.

Here's my hardware ID from Windows:
VEN_1033&DEV_0194&SUBSYS_04D81028&REV_04

Thanks.

Hi Rytz

See my entry for usb3 (previous listing acer aspire5755g). the support is through a 'Generic Kext', and seeing the replies on osx86 seems to have helped a lot of people - why not have a go! remember to carry out a backup first - just in case!

good luck!

Looks promising - I'll give it a shot this weekend and post my results. Thanks M1D1MAN.

I just want to confirm that this your "GenericUSBXHCI_1-1.1.4" kext is working perfectly! Blazingly fast speeds on on my USB3 ports with my Lacie P'9230 2T drive. It's like early Christmas. Save for sleep (which I don't care about) and a few minor issues, my Hackintosh is working amazingly. See attached image for drive info.

Thanks again. I'm going to post my guide for this laptop a bit later.
