(Hackintonshable) Install Mountain Lion MAC OS X on Sony Vaio SVE14125CXW

    Hackintosh Project #11

    TYPE: Sony VAIO E Series
    MODEL: SVE14125CXW
    VIDEO: Intel HD4000
PROCESSOR: Ivy Bridge Core i5-3210M 2.5GHz
ETHERNET: Picked up as Realtek 8169 in UniBeast
WIRELESS: Atheros WB225 ((AR9485 & AR3012 WiFi/Bluetooth combo) (Bluetooth detected on the card only))
    AUDIO: Intel HD

I could use some suggestions and some assistance if someone feels they can just drop answers and solutions in this thread for hackintoshing a SVE14125CXW. This is a Sony Vaio (Vaiotosh) how I would like to call it as it has some nice mac friendly hardware and I believe this has the potential to be just as great on a hackintosh level as the HP ProBook 4230s.

For starters, just to let you know somewhat where my knowledge base is on hackintoshing. This would be like my 11th build, and UniBeast is my choice of install now because hey, it's just the $#!t to be honest. I would say I'm still on the mediocre side as I understand a great deal but still not having too much of a clue when it comes to DSDTs and things like that (just got comfortable editing a chameleon.plist file). Well let's get into it shall we.....

    Tools that I've used:

    1. Mountain Lion.app 10.8
    2. UniBeast 1.5.3
    3. MultiBeast 5.2.1

    Install Process

    Pre Requisites:

This Vaio has a cool UEFI based BIOS that you access by pressing the access button while the machine is powered off. Access the BIOS by pressing F2 and make 2 changes. The boot order where Unibeast can boot before your hard drive and "UEFI" to "Legacy" (Without doing so you will be unable to boot from the UniBeast installer).

First time I used my UniBeast stick, I assume it was universal to work both on desktop and laptop but couldn't get it to boot on the Vaio itself. I rebuilt UniBeast with laptop support and Legacy USB and now I can finally boot from the USB stick.

Install Mountain Lion. After install, boot from UniBeast again them run MultiBeast. Opyions I chose were:

    EasyBeast Installl
    PS2 for mouse and keyboard
    MacBook Pro 8,1 definition
    PCI Root fix (for PCIRootUID=1)

After MultiBeast install I head over to the Extra folder and edit the chameleon.plist file with the string that loads the HD4000 Kext for this laptop.

    ig-platform-id: 01660003, Stolen RAM for FB: 64MB, Pipes: 2, Ports: 2, FBMem: 2

    Code:

    <key>device-properties</key>
    <string>7f0000000100000001000000730000000200000002 010c00d041030a000000000101060000027fff04002c000000 4100410050004c002c00690067002d0070006c006100740066 006f0072006d002d0069006400000008000000030066011400 00006800640061002d0067006600780000000d0000006f6e62 6f6172642d31</string>

    Reboot.
It boots up but I cant use usb flash drives and external hard drives. USB mouse works fine though. I don't understand....
Then I reinstall MultiBeast choosing the USB Legacy option but MultiBeast fails to install. I've tried it quite a few times and eventually got the kext installed by taking my hard drive out and using multibeast to install onto it from another mac. Once installed that way, placed the hard drive back into the vaio and it started reading the flash drives and externals. *WEBCAM* as well. Now what I do is install the 2 USB kext separately with KextBeast by first backing up the 2 USB kext to my UniBeast installer flash drive so when I boot using UniBeast with the legacy usb support built in, I then can proceed to manually install the USB legacy kexts without having to worry about multibeast failing when I try it that way.

Also another error I have which really annoys me is that when I go check "About This Mac" the whole OS refreshes as if it just got through rebooting. I cant get that screen and I really want to be able to access About this Mac. I feel it's apart of having a mac. Plus I want to see what's all detected and not and other stuff as well. Is this a dsdt issue? Do I need one generated in order for me to be able to access about this mac without the system refreshing itself? Is that even a problem? Has anyone else experienced such behavior after a post MultiBeast install? Is this do to needing some type of ACPI Platform kext for recognizing the board inside the vaio? Is that even needed to read the board I don't want to sound stupid.

What works where I'm at now...

    Ethernet
    HD4000
    Webcam
    Bluetooth
Haven't bothered with sound as I know a voodoo kext should more than likely knock that out. Maybe realtek as well, not sure....

What isn't working or not confirmed as of yet...

    Wifi
(Wont work because after heavy research the Atheros version they use on this combo card is not working under mountain lion as of yet. I'll just replace this with one that is compatible under mountain lion and personally, who still really bluetooths like that?)

    USB 3.0 (Unconfirmed)
Audio (Unconfirmed but sure it will work with a voodoo option from multibeast)

    Sleep

Anyone got any suggestions on how I can get this working in tip-top hackintosh shape? I know there some kext out there I'm going to mess around with as far as the multi gesture touchpad as this vaio has one of those. Please any help would be much appreciated and hopefully we can rise this nice little laptop of for glory of a worthy hackintoshable VAIOBook Pro.

Can someone help with a dsdt if you think I really need one with what I have and the symptoms I have as well? Would need instructions on what app to use to generate and create one or I can install Ubuntu and get one from Linux...(would need to know how to that as well but have Ubuntu if needed for dsdt creation). Plus I wouldn't know where to start as far as editing one to make it how it should be. All help is appreciated it.

(Hackintonshable) Install Mountain Lion MAC OS X on Sony Vaio SVE14125CXW

Hi, Good work so far, well done

I have a Sony Vaio E Series (SVE1711X1EB) and I have an almost complete build. I can tell you 2 things that should be of help to you

    1) That Atheros card probably is never going to work (based on my research) but a simple replace with the Atheros AR9287 worked for me, you need a modified kext (I think it is IO80211Family.kext). I'm at work at the minute but will confirm which one and send you the link later. The card cost me 9 from eBay and it's 300 Mbps too (compared to the existing 150 Mbps)

    2) Audio, try the last Voodoo option (I think it's Voodoo VT2021 or something like that, but it's definitely the last option (as of MB 5.2.1))

Now can I ask you a question? Did you need to do anything special in order to get your HD4000 card to work? Do you have a modded bios? I am struggling like hell to get mine working, I'm stuck at 7mb VRAM in 'About this Mac'. I have tried everything, I have spent the last 3-4 weeks trying different things, I have tried your string plus all other strings, I have even generated my own strings using gfxutil. I've also attempted to learn some DSDT editing to see what needs to be done, but can't quite get there. Tried different boot loaders and different versions of each too.

The only thing I have done differently to you is I did not set my "UEFI" to "Legacy" in the BIOS (I don't recall seeing such an option? What BIOS do you have? I have the E6 (R0200E6/R0220E6/R0230E6)). But the difference is I can boot from UniBeast, but I had to delete the AppleACPIPlatform.Kext from the 'Extras\Extensions' folder on the USB. The thing I notice from your post is, I don't have your refresh problem when you click 'about this Mac' and never have. Maybe you are indeed on the right track with the ACPI kext.

Hope we can help each other out!
    Good Luck

    @PokeHerOne

All I did was copy and paste that video string in my chamelon.plist. That was it. I did have to go through trial and error to find the right one but it seemed as if the one I used is a compatible one for a lot of laptops. Lucky for you, you can actually get the about this mac screen to verify you vram and if kext is loaded. The only way I know that my kext was loaded was by going to the display option in system preferences and there were 4 different type of resolutions available for me to pick on top of i'm getting my 1366x768 resolution off the back.

    My BIOS is R0150D5 / InsydeH20 Setup Utility / Rev. 3.7

I wonder if deleting AppleACPIPlatform.Kext will fix the whole about this mac thing. Is there anyone else that can touch on this? I hate that I cant get to the About this Mac screen. This is really a good hackintoshable laptop.

(Hackintonshable) Install Mountain Lion MAC OS X on Sony Vaio SVE14125CXW

No update as of yet, I will be trying some different things over this weekend. So far all ideas I have is to use an alternated acpiplatform kext. I'll try and see if deleting the acpi on the unibeast installer will install it on a UEFI boot (which may work for the about this mac). Any other suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. I feel I'm very close and something really small is in my way.

(Hackintonshable) Install Mountain Lion MAC OS X on Sony Vaio SVE14125CXW

    Hello,

I have got a Sony VAIO SVE1712F1EB with a Intel Pentium B980 processor and a Radeon HD 7650M.
I want to install Mac OS X on my laptop.

Will it work with my AMD graphics ?
    Or will it fail ?
Have you some experience with a graphic card ?
And is there now a Wi-fi driver for laptops or must I use LAN ?

    Thanks for help,
    Dustin

    In hope of on answer.

Like ShadowFMS, I also have a Sony Vaio SVE14125CXB, except I am just now getting around to trying to Hackintosh this thing.
AnaktuvGod and PokeHerOne, I will try to follow your suggestions as best I can.

I was wondering if any of you had made any further progress on your machines, and whether you have tried to install Mavericks on your Vaio yet. Any suggestions would be welcome.
