Got my u310 running 10.8.4
I have a AR9285 running perfectly however the signal is VERY low. When doing speed checks i only get 2 mbit down from my 50 mbit connection.
I notices when u removed the bottom cover. I get over 30mbit down.
I know this is a lenovo design flaw but if anyone has a way to get this working i would much appreciate it.

Thank you.

It's a design problem.

I found a fix in the long thread over at the lenovo forum. Gist is, additional shielding was necessary. There's pics on the thread also to give you an idea of how to fix. It was around page 62 or so of the thread

Thanks so much for your help and time. Have you used the same method ? If so can you please provide me the name of the shielding foil you used ? I see options for copper and aluminum. Also is this tape non-conductive ? I dont know much much space is in between the board and the bottom panel so i was thinking along with the shielding lining it with a thin layer of black plastic tape.

Thanks Again. :)

Thanks Again. I actually had a spare asus eee 1000ha so I used the shielding from there. what you can do is go on ebay and look for the back plate of an old laptop. It should have the shielding needed and would be just a few bucks.

I did the same mod as you, also shielded the bottom portion near the wifi card itself. This results in full speed when in 10 feet of the router, however anything further drops it down. For example my bedroom gets only about 6mbit while my other laptop gets full 20mbit down. I am wondering if my AR9285 card possibly has a low TX power setting. Is there anyway to adjust the tx power settings like in windows for mac ?

If possible can you suggest a intel based card or the best chip to get that has good power.

Thanks.

I'm using an ar9280 and am not having trouble getting good speeds in a far away corner. I've also tried the broadcom bcm94322HM8L on the same spot and it wasn't stable and dropped connection often. (I have a tp-link wdr4300 router with gargoyle firmware)

I don't know of any way to control tx setting on OSX.

Intel cards will not work on OSX.

The 9285 seems to be a good card, i wonder why its having issues with 1 floor up.

Are you using the AR9280 with the Bluetooth ?
What is your speed drop from 10 feet away to lets say 40 feet away ?

My 9280 is not a combo card. I just checked and saw that I was getting 117 down. My laptop is 1 floor down and on the opposite side of the house.
