LetThisNightExplode's Recording Studio Build

This system is being developed to work in Studio B at Sharp Island Recording Studio in Vancouver, BC. A simple editing, vocal/dialogue-tracking studio - perhaps some light mixing and composition. Studio A is running an old MacPro3,1 so if this build works out well it will likely be Studio A's new system. Endeavour, as I've aptly named this build, will be running Avid's Pro Tools 10 and Ableton for the bulk of the DAW work - though I'd like to explore having the option to keep a working Logic Pro 9 system in the studio. Even though no one uses it. I figured being able to afford some new microphones and a new computer was a better deal than just walking into the Apple store and getting ...whatever they plan to call a MacPro in 2013.

First, the components. After reading a few installments of
TonyMacX86's CustoMac, LifeHacker's Always Up-to-Date Guide to Building a Hackintosh, some other good ideas, a quick guide, some other BIOS recommendations, and the success of ultrazone's Master Audio Build, elvtnedge's Recording Studio 2.0 Build, and Slugnet's Video Editor's building I began thusly.

I really appreciate any and all support to get this build running as smoothly as possible. I will periodically edit this post to add links and complete gear lists but it's more important that I get the system running before i detail the build. I bought all of my parts in store from NCIX but I'll include TonyMacX86 affiliate links as well. I'll try to break it up into sections of work and detail things I looked for but could not find.

I figure the Order of Operations should be something like BIOS > Partition/Formatting > Install Windows > Install Mac OSX > Multibeast > Bootloader > Additional KEXTS > Install Sims 3 so fiancee can justify me destroying the kitchen table while I build this damn thing.

Solid.

:?: Do I need to install a bootloader separately? I did not select Chimera in Multibeast and It boots just fine into both Windows and OSX.

:?:Windows would hang on the "Shutting Down" screen

so I booted back in and installed the Gigabyte Mobo/SSD CD's first. I presume those chipset drivers are important. It installed Chrome for me too which is always a good thing. However - it still hangs on shutdown so
I'll look into it.

:?: GraphicsEnabler=No What does this actually do? I enabled it because, well, I was told to but that's about it.

:geek: GeekBench 12017 in Mountain Lion, 00000 in Windows 7. As long as I can maintain 10,000 I'll be happy.

I didn’t used a DTSD because there were a few sources that say this particular motherboard didn’t require one
Issue setting up the BIOS

:?:Could not find an entry for “Set Suspend Mode” to S3.

:?:Intel Virtualization Technology/VT-d -
This Guy says to disable it, This Guy says to enable it.- it was already disabled so we'll see if that's an issue

 The first thing I always install now in a Windows system is
Comodo Programs Manager. You can rollback anything.

You do not need a dtsd with that motherboard (same as mine).

i also installed graphicsenabler=no through multibeast and i have full functionality....but i still need another ssd for windows

Not needing the DTSD is excellent. What does graphicsenabler=no do? I have both windows and os x partitioned evenly on one SSD and they're booting really well. I read that Windows has to be installed first for it to work otherwise its own bootloader mucks everything up. Windows would.

have you tried dualing them on the same drive?

I can't remember exactly what it does, however I remember it being extensively documented on this site.

About windows, i'd much rather keep each os on a separate drive because i need all the space i can get on my ML ssd. I did hear the same thing about windows, however i wont have that option so i'm just going to unplug all other drives during windows install and hope for the best. But that wont be for a while anyway, im good with mint and mountain lion for now.

Actually, now that i think about it i am dual booting my macbook pro with ubuntu and snow leopard using one HD.

Your geekbench scores look good and pretty similar to my own.
