FakeSMC PlugIns KP on ML 10.8.2

I currently have my hackintosh running without any hiccups ...sorta. The UEFI BIOS did wonders but still would like to tweak a few things until I am satisfied.

Everything works as it should except sleep and FakeSMC PlugIns. After doing some research on the forum I found posts relating to get sleep to work with a DSDT, but I have a UFEI BIOS so can I use a DSDT without messing up the system?

I wanted to overclock my processor and use iStat to monitor the CPU temperature. Unfortunately, when I go to install the FakeSMC PlugIns via Multibeast 5.0.2 my system freezes and I am forced to power down. When booting I get a KP and cant enter safe mode nor single user. This leaves me with doing a fresh install.
Luckily I backed up my system and the second time I tried this.

Any suggestions? Thank you for your time!

My system Specs are:

- Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 Motherboard (UEFI BIOS)
- Geforce GTX 670
- 16GB DDR3 Ram
- 120GB SSD
- Intel 3570k
- ML 10.8.2

Awesome thank you! Sleep works as good as I need it too. Now just to get those SMC PlugIns working...

That's good to know someone is in the same boat as me! I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. I wonder why FakeSMC PlugIns is causing kernal panics. I'm going to do more research and if I find anything I will post here.

Look here this may answer your question:

10.8.2 Troubleshooting

If you use FakeSMC plugins, and get a kernel panic after reboot. Boot into safe mode by typing -x at the Chimera boot screen. Then navigate to /System/Library/Extensions/FakeSMC.kext/Contents/Plugins/ and delete OEMsmbios.kext. Then reboot.

I think the best way to do it is the way I did it:

  1. Install combo update
  2. Don't reboot
  3. Delete OEMsmbios.kext
  4. Repair permissions
  5. Reboot

I'm sure there's a way to fix it. I keep an extra drive with a working install on it. If I have a problem I can boot from backup, then get into the main drive and do what needs to be done.

Aren't there side effects to deleting that kext?

My secondary CustoMac is identical to your hardware listed, and FakeSMC PlugIns are working just fine after deleting OemSMBios.kext from the PlugIns folder. I still get all the same hardware readings that I had before I removed that kext. Yes there is one side effect, it causes my system to boot properly instead of a KP :D

Ok. I will give it a try. I already have ML 10.8.2 installed. My plan is run multibeast 5.0.2 and install the motherboard plugins and then delete OemSMBios.kext, repair permissions, reboot, pray for no KP.:problem:

Well I installed the FakeSMC PlugIns and deleted OEMsmbios.kext. Good news is no KP! Bad news is motherboard plugins still dont work with istats. It can not find any of my cpu sensors. HW monitor does though.

Did you get cpu readings in istat in previous versions of OS X with OemSMBios.kext installed? If so, you're just going to have to wait for that kext to be updated to work properly in 10.8.2. The version included in MultiBeast 5.0.2 is the current version.

As a noob can I ask a stupid question....

Everything was working fine but I thought my CPU was running a bit hot. So I read the thing to do was go back to multibeast, install Hardware monitor app and FakeSMC. As mentioned here...instructed to reboot then KP.

Do I need to rebuilt this system or is there something else I can do to get it booted up?
