[SOLVED] UEFI but no P0 boot option (Z77-DS3H)

I can't get Chimera to automatically load, instead I have to manually select my OS X disc at every boot to get Chimera to load.

Motherboard:
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H (F8 bios) + i5 3570k

Drives:
P0 - SSD 128gb (OCZ Vertex 4): Mac OS X 10.8.2 installed using UniBeast / MultiBeast (after Windows install)
P1 - HDD 2tb (Samsung ST2000DL004): User folders on single HFS+ partition
P2 - Optical Drive (LG WH14NS40)
P3 - HDD 256gb (WD2500JS): Windows 7 installed on a single "system reserved" NTFS partition (before OS X, with drives unplugged)
P4 - HDD 256gb (WD2500JS): single NTFS partition, unused

If I press F12 to boot override, I can select P0: OCZ VERTEX4 and Chimera runs and all is good. However, if enter the BIOS instead, P0 is not in the Boot Option Priorities list to choose from. The only option for that P0 drive is UEFI: OCZ Vertex4. The Boot Option Priority options are:
  • P2: HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH14NS40
  • P3: WDC WD2500JS-08NCB1
  • UEFI: OCZ-VERTEX4
  • UEFI: ST2000DL004 HD204UE

BIOS settings are:
  • optimized defaults settings
  • xHCI = Auto
  • xHCI and EHCI Hand-off = enabled
  • Init Display First = IGFX
  • High Precision Event Timer = enabled

Setting the Boot Mode Selection mode in the BIOS to Legacy Only just eliminates the UEFI options in the list above.

I have tried both F7 and F8 bios versions, and I have done a CMOS reset, and several reinstalls after deleting partitions and formatting drives with gparted from linux ISO. Any thoughts on where I messed up?

[SOLVED] UEFI but no P0 boot option (Z77-DS3H)

I solved my problem; all I had to do was unplug all the drives except my Mac OS X (SATA_0 - OCZ Vertex 4 SSD) then go into the BIOS. Once it was the only drive, P0: OCZ VERTEX4 did show up in the Boot Option Priority list! I selected P0 as the #1 (and only) boot priority, then I saved the BIOS settings and powered off, plugged in all the remaining drives and it works like it should!

Not exactly elegant, but it works.

Great thanks for sharing. I encountered the same problem after updating the z77-ds3h to F9 and your method allowed me to fix it! :headbang:

Same problem here - same solution! unplug all but the OS-X boot disk, then add the other disks again.
Booting fine now, however after shutting down (from within OS-X) the computer switches off, then on again, but with no image on screen and no reaction to keyboard... Need to push the power button to switch off and then switch off the power supply to keep from switching on again.
Gotta find a solution for that now.

Confirmed this works for UD5H boards -- thanks!

Wow....this Tonnymac community never ceases to amaze me. Troubleshooting has been relatively painless today, and it's always super-easy to find someone else who has had a similar problem and has found a solution. Thanks for helping me with the mysterious disappearance of my "P0" boot option. (That's so funny. Does anyone know why it was only showing a UEFI option? My P0 option was on there just earlier today.)

Anyway, regarding the strange rebooting-upon-shutdown issue, I know other users of the Gigabyte UD5H boards have solved the issue by disabling wake on LAN in the BIOS, as pointed-out near the bottom of this article:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/99-quick-guide-configuring-uefi-gigabyte-s-7-series-lga-1155-boards.html

FWIW, I've done this, and the computer shuts down properly with no rebooting issues. *knock on wood*

Thank you very much for sharing. I can't understand why this happens to so many people, but it almost got me mental :banghead:. Your solution was perfect also for my Z77-DS3H.

Thanks.
