Hi all,

I've been hesitant to update to Mountain Lion because of the trouble with installing Mountain Lion with AMD 68XX graphic cards. I noticed that 10.8.2 adds extra support for AMD cards. Does anyone know if this new update fixes the earlier problems with 68XX cards?

If yes, than presumably a fresh download means no longer moving and switching kexts since Apple puts the most recent OS version in the App store, right?

If no, then, well...I'm a lion without a mountain.

I have a sapphire 6870 and this is the first I hear of issues with mountain lion? Do you mean during installation? I read about that on the guide, so I just switched to intel hd graphics on my 2600k, installed, then switched back. I've been using mountain lion for a while and haven't noticed any issues.

I tested my 6870 - it is working fine until you put machine to sleep and wake up. After wake 80% performance will be gone and some openCL bench app crashing during tests. True for Lion 10.7.5 and 10.8.2. So it is perfect if your machine never sleeps ;-). Really hope it will be fixed in the future, I like 6870.

Sorry for not being more clear - I did, indeed, mean the trouble with installing Mountain Lion.

From my understanding there were no issues with the AMD 68XX cards after installation...

I haven't seen anyone do fresh install yet with 10.8.2 and the 68XX cards. If you don't have a reply by tomorrow I'll do a fresh install and test it.

customac: I can't duplicate your issues with a 6850...

Never heard of that problem before.

Using XFX 6870, max. 350fps using OpenCL Oceanwave test. (before and after sleep)

I did a fresh ML install on my GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 with a MSI 6850 (R6850 Cyclone PE 1GB)
Finally got the install to work by removing the
ATI6000Controller.kext from the USB stick.
After the installation, when I boot with GraphicsEnabler=No, I don't get CI/QE and with GraphicsEnabler=Yes, the system hangs at boot.

I just did a fresh install of 10.8.2. Removed the ati6000 kext from unibeast drive then
replaced with kext beast.

Only getting 20fps with GE=No but the mouse is smooth, also 20fps with GE=Yes but
the mouse movement is glitchy. I was getting 52fps with GE=No or Yes under lion.
I tried a modified 6870 kext and played with some framebuffers - all glitchy or 20fps.

Only installed user DSDT, realtek network kext and chimera with multibeast so far.
Need advice...

I did a fresh install of 10.8.2 with a Sapphire 6870 at the weekend, had to remove the ATI6000 kext to get it to install and then reinstalled with kextbeast after installation.

Not noticed any issues up to now, can be a little jerky when waking from sleep but I put it down to the wake process.

Games and apps appear no different to Lion.

I use the following in my boot.plist

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>AtiPorts</key>
<string>4</string>
<key>AtiConfig</key>
<string>Duckweed</string>
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1920x1200x32</string>
