[SOLVED]Intel USB3 issue of GA-Z77X-UP4 TH

Hi All:
I got an Z77X-UP4 TH and install Lion and Mountain Lion. Everything almost works fine, and I know VL800-USB3 doesn't work in OSX. But I got a problem about Intel-USB3 (two USB port close to RJ-45 port) .

Intel-USB3 work with USB3 devices, and doesn't work with USB2 devices plug in these Intel-USB3 port. It mean that Intel-USB3 can not compatible with USB2 device. The same issue of GA-Z77X-UP4 TH in Lion 10.7.

If I turn-off XHCI setting in UEFI-BIOS, these USB3 Port can work with USB2 device, and all USB3 device will work with USB2 connect-speed.

If I install " legacy USB support" with MultiBeast 5.0.2, these USB3 port works with all device in USB2 speed, no matter what I use USB3 or USB2 device.

This problem never happened on GA-H77-DS3H. I don't know how to make these Intel-USB3 port can use USB3 device in USB3 speed, and use USB2 device in USB2 speed.

Does somebody know how to fix it?

I have upgrade GA-Z77X-UP4 TH to last UEFI Version F3, and set xhci mode to auto, each ehci to enable.

The same XHCI setting of UEFI-BIOS between GA-H77-DS3H and GA-Z77X-UP4 TH (xhci : auto, ehci : enable), H77-DS3H work fine but GA-Z77X-UP4 TH not.

odd , do u use ivybridge on 2 boards ?

Hello Benjenq,

Are you saying that on the GA-H77-DS3H you were able to get USB-3 speed through the Intel-USB3 ports?

Yes, as my signature. I use GA-H77-DS3H before 10 August and change to GA-Z77X-UP4 TH because of Thunderbolt. The ivybridge-CPU is Intel Core i7-3770.

Hello Benjenq,

Yes, it seem like to work with USB3 speed on GA-H77-DS3H, like this (see attach picture)

The Intel-USB3 port works with USB3 device on Z77X-UP4 TH, but these two USB3 ports (close to RJ-45 port) CANNOT work with USB2 device where turn-on XHCI to AUTO in UEFI-BIOS.

The Intel-USB3 port works with USB2 and USB3 devices on H77-DS3H where turn-on XHCI to AUTO in UEFI-BIOS.

Thanks for the info!

It's quite odd, on my GA-Z77X-UD3H the device also shows up as Superspeed USB 3.0, but in actual read tests the speed tops out at 33 MB/s, whereas the same device reads at 100 MB/s dual-booting into Windows 7.
No problem using USB 2.0 devices on the Intel USB 3.0 port, only the speed limit ...

And sleep disrupts the connected USB devices: after wake-up the mounted usb-disks give the error message that they were improperly ejected, and the mouse and keyboard have to be unplugged and replugged to work.

it seems bios issue maybe with update from gigabyte will fix this issue or by apple 10.8.1

Does this mean that the intel USB 3.0 ports above the RJ45 work with USB 3 devices (at USB 3 speed)?
If thats right, it would be great, since you can use USB 2.0 devices with the USB 2.0 ports.

Can you confirm this?

Thanks in advance

I am on the most current BIOS, and I even tried the developer seed of 10.8.1 (which does replace the USB kexts), but that didn't fix anything.
So am hoping either for the next BIOS update, or that the final 10.8.1 release fixes things!
