i had a working ML install for about 3 weeks now. No issues. Like an idiot, I updated my firmware to the new version that just came out this week (2002) and now I can't boot ML or even Lion unless I go down to 1 core and no hyperthreading. Unfortunately, this was a one-way upgrade (no reversing to a previous BIOS). I'm stuck on "waiting for root device" and all the "obvious" solutions to this problem don't seem to work (even tried a fresh, clean install). Haven't used a single-core system in years--its pretty painful folks.

If/when I find a fix, I'll update this but for now, I'd avoid the latest firmware unless you're having problems that require it.

Turns out the fix is an easy one. Thanks to those who have posted similar problems, I now know to put VoodooTSCSync.kext in the /S/L/E folder or /E/E folder and rebuild the cache. Just posting here to help anyone else with similar problems.

Indeed! This fixed my problem! Which is why I was having all problems even at the installation screen of ML.

I did not know that forcing to use only 1 core is an immediate quick (but not recommended) fix.

Without any parameters, the install goes into Kernal Panic.
When I tried playing around with PCIRootUID=0 and GraphicsEnabler=No, it boots but the behavior is very erratic. Everything was stuttering: video, mouse/keyboard input was very erratic that it responds rarely.

Right now, i installed this kext onto my Unibeast ML USB installer (via E/E).

And voila! The installation screen is back to normal!

Specs:
p9x79 pro - 2002 bios
i7 3960
2x gtx 680 2gb sli
1x 120gb ssd

Thank you for this very wonderful trick! :)

Dear theta2099...
Thank you so much!

I also made the stupid mistake by updating the USB.

Your fix really helped me out.

Thank you so much! you r great.

PS: Is USB 3 working for you?

Can someone share what Multibeast settings I need to get this rig beyond the first boot? And is the kext Theta2099 posted (thanks!) needed for regular running, or just on the installer?

I can install, get into first boot, but if it shuts down after that it's lost to the world. My computer is a giant paperweight right now (after several months of 10.7 working like a champ), so any help is greatly appreciated!!!

You'll need the KEXT I shared earlier always (at least at this point). I haven't installed my system since before MultiBeast 5 came out so the settings I used to get it running are a bit different when selected through MultiBeast 5 BUT I would try the following:

No DSDT
Audio: Realtek ALC 898
Disk: 3rd party SATA/eSATA, TRIM (if a solid state drive is used)
Graphics: None (I use ATI)
Misc: FakeSMC, FakeSMC plugins (not necessary but you can use some or all), NullCPU, USB3
Network: hnak's Ethernet
Bootloader: Chimera
System def: MacPro 5,1

Those are what most closely match what I used in MultiBeast 4 to get it installed. There may be other options or newer changes that would also work or work better but as I said, I haven't tried with 5 yet.

Hello, am a novice could you please tell me how to make my installer ML Unibeast USB (via E / E). and install voodoutscsync.kext.zip
thank you in advance .. my mail robe.chris1234 @ gmail.com
