Hello Team
I need some help/guidance:

How to FRESH Install ML on to a FRESH (brand new) HDD (from ML on DVD DISC)?

I already have a PERFECT working Hackintosh with Snow Leopard and wish to build a separate NEW PC.

Regards
harry

Thanks for your Rapid response.

But not joking, I have both Lion and ML on separate DVD Discs. Though the discs have not been install tested!

Is it possible to build CustoMac, same procedure as SL off a DVD disc?

I am aware of the build " Unibeast etc... on any Intel based".
Regards

Retail ML does not come on DVD.

Where did it come from?

Note: DVDs delivered with real Macs for recovery are not retail disks and cannot be used on non-Apple hardware.

Hi RehabMan - i think your information is out of date. ML is no longer available as a DL from the app store.
in despairation, i've just purchased it from the App Store (web site, as it doesn't appear in the app) …i was expecting a download link.
instead, they say they are sending me a DVD (or maybe a USB drive) - i wont know untill it arrives in a few days.

i'm worried that whatever they send will be blocked by Unibeast. If this is the case, can whatever comes be added to Unibeast's whitelist ? otherwise i've just wasted my money at apple on a product that's blocked by Unibeast.

If Unibeast is doesn't allow ML / mavericks obtained from the app store, I think this should be stated clearly in the tonymacs guides.

@RehabMan is correct - ML is available from the App Store but only if you have previously purchased it.
Snow Leopard was the last version of OS X to be issued on optical media.
There are various grey coloured discs around but they were Restore discs issued with real Macs and they will only work on real Macs.

I don't know what you've purchased from Apple but I hope that you'll enlighten us when it arrives.

Good Luck with your build.

Update: after speaking to apple customer service, it looks like RehabMan and P1LGRIM, are partly correct..

customer svc say i've bought an ESD which i will get an email link to in about 3 days (i asked why not now - they said it takes 3 days to generate the link / passcode). So No, apple haven't reverted to Optical Media.

The appstore web site is misleading, because it takes you through a whole load of delivery address stuff and says your item will be delivered.. along with the photo that looks like a boxed DVD.

The other thing to clear up is you can only download it from the app store application if you've previously bought it.
The application returns no search results for OSX Mountain Lion.
However, you can buy it from the web store as a new customer by googling "buy osx mountain lion" (i tried searching the site but got nowhere) so hooray for the internets.

Hopefully I'll now be able to hack-update my snow leopard haxy :)

I think the (Legacy) ML and Mavericks guides should be updated with a 'How to buy' note as they still assume you can just use the app store app.

yeah - like all wiki's .. its all over the place. a clear link in the build guide to the buying an os page would've helped mea few weeks ago.

i'm not new to this site.. but i find it very hard to get the specific answers i need - so thanks to juttla for posting the question i was googling.

thanks to the team members who responded too :)

btw, the ML link in the buying an OS page points to the U.S. store - i'm in the uk.
the Mavericks link tries to launch the iTunes store (i removed that from my macbook a year ago) ;-)
