I have everything to do my build but an actual MAC. I wanted to know if i can just buy the retail mountain lion install disc and do a clean install with it. My school has MAC computers that i can use but they are all server clients and i dont have authorization to install uni or multibeast to create usb boot drives and it involves me taking my SSD to school and what not. I want to completely avoid this all the way around and also not have to use virtualbox or anything of that sort. Ive looked over the compatible hardware list several times and i wouldnt think that my DIMMS or HDDs/SSD would be an issue as far as system compatibility. My current setup up is

ASUS Z97 Deluxe
Core i5 4690k Haswell
Corsair Dominator Platinum 16gb @2400mhz
2 EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSCs in SLI
Corsair HX850i PSU
Corsair H100i Cpu Cooler

There is no ML retail DVD. You must purchase the Snow Leopard DVD (10.6.3) and follow the instructions to install and update to 10.6.8 at which point you will be able to download the Yosemite install image from the Mac Store. That or find access to a Mac or Hackintosh to use for the MS download.

Good modding,

thank you for the reply. I have never owned a Mac and honestly i am not completely aware of what they are capable of. Other than video editing. If I get a snow leopard disc, use iBoot Haswell, and follow the basic install instructions is it all pretty smooth sailing from there?

i have obtained a copy of 10.6.3. i have looked at forums saying that this both will and will not work as an install disc. I see that it is a retail disc but is it good enough to use a install disc being its not the original 10.6 retail.
