----

This is my first Hackintosh build. I may have gotten in over my head with the series 9 motherboard. Especially since I'm trying to boot with Mountain Lion. Does anyone know if my hardware setup will play well with Mountain Lion?

Current Issues:
1. Can only boot in -x (I achieved boot up without -x in earlier attempts of my build, but I didn't document the changes adequately so I forgot how I got it to work. I've attached screen shots of where boot up stops in -v mode)
2. No sound
3. Slow boot times
4. No iTunes store
5. No Thunderbolt (After I get the rest of the system stable, I'll install windows and load the Thunderbolt drivers.)

1. Install:

Followed UniBeast Guide to create 10.8.5 USB stick.
Notes: Experienced mouse and keyboard freeze at language screen. This lasted about 8 minutes then regular operation resumed.

Install took 10 minutes.

Tried to reboot, but was unsuccessful, so I proceeded in Safe Mode.

2. Bios Setup

Applied the same Bios settings as misosoup7, found in this thread:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/user-buil...7x-ud7-th-i7-4790k-32gb-gtx-770-10-9-4-a.html
However I left Intel Graphics enabled, since I am using onboard graphics.

a. Load Optimized Defaults
b. M.I.T. > Intel® Turbo Boost Technology > DISABLED
c. M.I.T. > Advanced Memory Settings > X.M.P. > Profile 1
d. Peripherals > xHCI Mode > AUTO
e. Peripherals > xHCI Hand-off > ENABLED
f. Peripherals > EHCI Hand-off > ENABLED
g. Peripherals > Internal Graphics > DISABLED
h. Peripherals > Init Display First > PCIe slot 1 (set this to whichever slot you plugged your graphics card into. This should be PCIe slot 1 as it'll give you the best performance for your card on the PCIe x16 slot)

i. Power Management > Wake on Lan > DISABLED
j. BIOS Features > VT-d > DISABLED
k. BIOS Features > Boot Mode Selection > Legacy
l. Save & Exit > Save and Exit BIOS

Notes: After tweaking Bios, I still couldn't boot without -x. Everything seems to be in working order, however iTunes store will not load, and attempting to play any files in Quicktime results in error -101. Sound is unavailable, which I assume is disabled due to Safe Mode.

(Thanks misosoup)

3. Run MultiBeast 5.5.5.

My MultiBeast settings are displayed in the photos below.

Notes: After running MultiBeast I used Kext Wizard to Repair Permissions and Rebuild Cache.

After running MultiBeast I was able to successfully boot in Safe Mode without the UniBeast thumb drive, however my mouse and keyboard froze again for 8-10 minutes.

4. Removed the following kexts in an attempt to speed up boot times:

AppleThunderboltDPAdapters.kext
AppleThunderboltEDMService.kext
AppleThunderboltNHI.kext
AppleThunderboltPCIAdapters.kext
AppleThunderboltUTDM.kext
IOThunderboltFamily.kext

After removal, I repaired permissions and rebuilt cache with Kext Wizard.

Notes: After reboot, I no longer experience keyboard and mouse freezes!

5. Next attempted to replace the following kexts to remedy slow boot times:

AppleAHCIPort.kext
IOAHCIFamily.kext
AppleACPIPlatform.kext

I didn't experience any changes. I'm still stuck booting in Safe Mode anyway, so I'd imagine whatever is causing that is the root of the slow boot times. The Kext links are found in post #7 and post #11 of this thread:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-lion-desktop-support/65106-mountain-lion-slow-boot-up-time-2.html

(Thanks tot31)

I've uploaded my org.chameleon.boot.plist
Does everything look right?

Any help with this build would be much appreciated.

UPDATES-Please Help! GA-Z97X-UD7 TH/i7 4790k/16GB (Mountain Lion 10.8.4)

double post

Did you manage to get this system up to 100%? Having the identical issues right now and I'm not sure how to approach a solution. Did you find a workaround to use the onboard graphics? Did you get Thunderbolt working?

Antionio4346,

Sorry you're having issues. I ended up giving up on Mountain Lion and installed Mavericks instead. At this point, with Mavericks the machine in rock solid and crazy fast. I still have a few bugs to work out but haven't had time.

Things I need to address:

HMDI Audio
Installing Windows on a partition in order to install Thunderbolt drivers

Beyond that, everything is great. Do you absolutely have to have Mountain Lion or would you consider Mavericks? Switching to Mavericks made the process much easier for me.

has anybody got audio out with this setup?

I have same mobo(gigabyte ga-z97x-ud7 th), and i7 Haswell. ML 10.8.5 is more advantageous for my specific needs(over Mavericks/Yosemite), but I cannot get 1150 audio out from the regular jack on back of mobo. I did a clean install of 10.9.5, and got audio out no problem, but there were too many other compatibility issues with the specific programs I am running but after a clean infall of ML everything runs superb with the one exception of the audio out and after weeks of research I am both confused and out of ideas. There is a thread/page that goes into detail about a thing that, to the best of my knowledge, looks like there is a path specifically for 1150 audio and ML 10.8.5, but it is too advanced and/or beyond my scope/understanding.

I could really use some help there. I'm not one to immediately look for help, and 99.9% of the time I usually get everything going by patience, learning, and following directions but I am at a loss here.

This link is as close to an answer that I can surmise. I just don't understand it enough to know exactly how to apply it to my situation, or to say with certainty that it is a potential solution to my problem.

Please, if anybody can be of assistance it would be greatly appreciated; and if anybody could maybe take me through this link and help me to understand it more so I can apply it to my situation I would be very, very, grateful. I have extensive knowledge in many other areas and would gladly be of any help I can with something else that could be of help. Like I said I had this whole setup running smooth as silk with Mavericks and can be of assistance there(Mavericks just won't work for me due to older program compatibility).

The link is as follows:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/67710-how-add-edit-dsdt-hdef-v2.html

I do believe my answer is in there somewhere. It is at the very least a page that has 1150, Haswell, audio, and ML 10.8.5 in the same thought so if someone could take me through the processes detailed on that page it would be greatly appreciated. It's been months of no dice so maybe you can see my frustration in the way I'm writing this.

Thank you

Hey,i have the same setup as you and i run ML successfully with very few problems.
I use a Firewire audio device (UA Apollo) for all my audio.I installed a Digitus Firewire card
which has worked very well.I didn't bother with MOBO audio as it was a headache and not necessary.
Perhaps your circumstances have changed but have you considered using an external sound card?

Strangely enough I built the machine in June 2014 (approx)
and set out to install Mavericks but i couldn't get it working so i stuck with ML .Since June TonymacX has added our MOBO to the recommended list but with different memory. Ballistix over Vengeance
although i have had success with both types.Im now struggling with getting Yosemite not to freeze after successful installation and Multibeast settings. I was hoping the new RAM was the answer but no dice !!!
Anyway thats TBC on another thread.

After you decided to install Mavericks, did any of your multibeast settings change?

Hello, I have the same MOBO (gigabyte z97x ud7) and nvidia GTX 650... My system is working fine (mavericks) but only have a small issue... When I shut down the computer and tun it on, it gets a little freeze when mavericks appears... This doesn´t happen when apply restart option (only when I shut down and tun it on)... Anyone has an Idea??? Thanks...

This is an awesome thread, as I prefer Mountain Lion as well.. any updates will be much appreciated - but in the meantime I will order a board and test it out!

So I installed Mountain Lion, but am having slow boot times.. but deleting and replacing the three kexts (AppleAHCIPort.kext, IOAHCIFamily.kext, AppleACPIPlatform.kext) did help in bringing the boot time down a great deal.

Anybody else have any luck with getting 10.8.5 to run smooth with this motherboard?

I plan on also installing Windows so that I can get Thunderbolt running with my UA stuff.

Then after that I am planning on installing Mavericks and Yosemite on additional partitions so that I can rock a quadruple-boot setup. Cuz I'm wild like that...
