Hi Guys ,

I am really sorry to post a new thread regarding pre-installation but even after spending a lot of time reading up the basics on the forums and online guides , I find myself confused and concerned about a hassle free installation so I am posting by doubts below.

I would appreciate if members could link me to the existing guide / threads I need to follow .

I am currently using a system based on Asus Z87 Gryphon + i5 4670k + Corsair Vengeance 8GB RAM + no GPU . Currently I have Windows 8.1 as the only OS installed on primary partition of my Crucial M500 SSD .. I have another empty partition on the same SSD which I had kept for installation of OSX 10.9.2

So I do wish to install OSX on a different partition of the same drive and be able to dual booth both OS . I do have another WD 3TB Black drive I can use for OSX installation but I would prefer having it on the SSD (for the speed) unless its too much hassle to setup multiboot on same drive.

I have a bootable OSX installation thumb drive which I made using help of a friend and his Macbook Pro using the Mutlibeast guide on the forums.

Now from here how do I go about with the installation exactly ? Just make settings to BIOS (AHCI,disablequick boot etc ) and then boot from the multibeast USB , format the partition on SSD and finish installation ? Is there any modified BIOS I need to install before the setup ?

What about getting back my Win 8.1 and being able to dual boot once I have OS X installed ? How do I do that ?

Any software I will need post installation for dual boot ? I read about Chimera /Clover etc and find it confusing .

Sorry , I know probably too many questions but reading up all these threads and guide only makes me more confused. Need some fixed pointers to avoid trouble.

Thank you for the help.

Multiboot is possible on the same drive so long as you have both partitions formatted correctly and your primary bootloader set as chimera, clover, chameleon, etc. On my old inspiron 1525 I had a triple boot on an SSD. OS X, Windows Vista, and Ubuntu.

Thanks for the help.

When I first installed Windows 8.1 on the SSD - I basically made only two partitions on it , one is NTFS and has Win 8.1 on it , the other will be formatted using the disk utility in USB drive for installation of OSX .

I believe my Windows installation is a UEFI install , will I still be able to dual boot ? Someone please confirm before I go ahead with the installation. Or will I have to reinstall windows ?

If I'm reading correctly. You partitioned the drive into two partitions. One is NTFS for windows 8.1 and the other is not formatted currently?

So you currently have 8.1 running on the system. You're going to use UniBeast to boot into OS X install and use disk utility to format the second partition as Mac OS X Extended Journaled. Install OS X. Then boot using the UniBeast thumb drive again, install Chimera and all your kexts/dsdt with MultiBeast, then restart and have a dual boot using Chimera as the bootloader?

if this is what you are saying. Then yes. This method will work. Although you may have to change your boot order as I believe after installing OS X, OS X will be your primary boot partition.

^Yes , that's what I meant and I did try it last night but it failed on me since I couldn't install OSX on the unformatted partition because it kept saying that the drive is not formatted by GUID Partition method and OSX can not be installed on it . I tried formatting it into OSX Journaled but in the process something went wrong and I also lost my Windows installation on the NTFS partition of the same drive . It kept saying missing OS / boot files and even windows startup repair (from USB) couldn't fix it .

So I finally completely formatted that drive and will attempt re installing both OSX + Win 8.1 today using the following guide .

So I tried a fresh installation , booted from USB unibeast and installed OSX .. downloaded and ran multibeast setup and after selecting even the basic drivers and rebooting I am running into this screen .

Can anyone please help me figure it out ?

Also OSX wont boot without the Unibeast USB , any idea idea what could be the issue ? I am on the official Asus BIOS 1802 .

MacPro4,1 expects ECC RAM. I suspect you don't have ECC RAM...

Use MacPro3,1 or remove AppleTyMCEDriver.kext.

I finally got everything working after shifting the boot to EFI partition using this guide and now I am finally able to boot without the USB disk and it automatically boots from the EFI partition.

Now how do I finally install Windows 8.1 on the other partition and enable dual boot via Chimera boot loader ?

You should just be able to format the second partition in disk utility for windows and then put in your windows disc, and format it again in the windows installer and install windows. Use your USB stick to boot back into chimera if the windows install changes your primary boot partition.
