Ga-Z87X-Ud5 TH+ 4770k - takn' the journey

Novice needs an inner tube… Throw me some floaties!!:beachball:

GEAR:
Gigabyte Ga-Z87X-Ud5 Th Lga 1150 Intel Z87
i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core
HyperX Beast 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) KHX24C11T3K4/32X
SAMSUNG 840 EVO 120GB (SSD)
Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme (CLW0224) Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 240MM

INTRO:
Running of MOBO GFX, I have updated the MOBO bios to F3 (current version), I have prepared the Unibeast 3.1 thumbstick, installed Mountainlion on an SSD, loaded optimized settings on MOBO and I adjusted *most* of the bios settings (except xml) according to thelostswede's guide. Upon rebooting into mountain lion I have gotten stuck between a rock and a hard place.

PROBLEM:
The boot process hangs at the startup screen. The MOBO code (51) shows that a "memory initialization error occurs."

ATTEMPTED SOLUTIONS:
- I removed all but one memory DIMM in slot #1, i also tried 2 DIMMS in slots #1 & #3
- When I enable XMP in bios to profile 1 it shows memory speed of 2400mhz but i get "Boot Failure Detected- load bios" ** this is 2400mhz memory
- When i enable XMP to profile 2 it shows memory speed of 2133mhz, but system hangs at OSX boot same memory error
- I retimed the memory in the bios to 2400mhz and tried XMP on and off, experienced boot fail either way.
- I can not set memory to 1200 mhz - the only multiplier settings are 10.66 or 13.33 mhz
- It seems some Advanced Manual Timing setting may be the trick, but I'm not sure how to navigate this
- My exact memory configuration is not listed on the Gigabyte compatibility list which is 7 months old, but similar makes are listed just not the 4x8gb configuration
- Taconic reported a memory issue and solved it by moving the CPU fan header. Didn't work.
- Just for extra fun i also tried clearing the CMOS and swapping memory DIMMS

any advice and help to get this puppy running would be awesome! thanks for all your adventures and hard work until now.

max

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS:
-How does one issue a boot flag?
-Only 2 USB ports are active on the mobo out of 6

Suggest go to http://www.memtest.org/ and download a USB version. Install all RAM, no HDD or SSD.
Boot from USB and allow it to run overnight. This will show any bad RAM modules for RMA.

i don't have a windows system running right now so i can't make that USB stick but thanks for the advice.

i found a brand new stick of PNY DDR3 pc3-12800 1600mhz and tried that, same issue. its not on the supported list, but i'm guessing i don't have 5 bad sticks of ram here that need RMA.

How does one start analyzing and adjusting the memory timings?

You don't need a Windows system to copy a .exe file to a FAT formatted USB flash drive. You can do it with OS X.

i bought some new ram: Gskill Trident X 2400 hoping to solve the issue . this set of 4 sticks of 8g is listed on the gigabyte site and even comes with a Z87 approved sticker on it!! i was hoping that was all it took. same problem though unfortunately.

As for the mem test idea- i'm willing to try/learn anything. the exe i downloaded from that site listed as the USB version can not be opened on a mac or with stuffit expander. and i also tried downloading the bootable iso and making the usb myself. this can not be accomplished in ccc, disk utility and copying the files directly onto the USB as you suggested does not work. none of these steps result in a bootable usb stick for the motherboard.

there are plenty of successful builds with this mobo- what could my problem be?

i finally figured out an important detail about issuing boot flags- the time to do this is before selecting which device to boot in what i think is called "chimera" - the tonymac boot screen screen that the Unibeast thumbstick presents after the mobo logo. and i didn't know this but you have to type the - and the v

while in verbose mode i discovered that the boot process stops at

BluetotothHCIcontroller start--- completed
* [IObluetoothHCIcontroller][searchfortransporteventtimeouthandler]-- missing bluetooth controller transport!

so, i removed the bluetooth/wifi chip from the mono. (i've also read in some other posts that this chip doesn't work the the hackintosh. but, after its removal the boot process stalled at the same place

so then i issued the -x bootflag and was able to successfully boot into the Mountain Lion SSD!!
Aweomse.
now i am continuing the setup, and we'll see what happens:D

installed multi beast options based on abc123kazu's build

rebooted into same memory issue.
i booted into verbose mode off the SSD. the os seems to hang at a similar place, but not identical
it does not have the line
BluetotothHCIcontroller start--- completed

its reads:
assertion in applehdaengine at line 599
* [IObluetoothHCIcontroller][searchfortransporteventtimeouthandler]-- missing bluetooth controller transport!

i still have the wifi/bluetooth chip unplugged. running one stick of memory in slot 1.

so the board seems to boot in safe mode with the new gskill ram, all four sticks
but it won't boot in regular mode

so i'm figuring it has something to do with the bluetooth part of the bios
This has absolutely nothing to do with a Bluetooth device you need to get screen shot posted of verbose where it stop if you seek help I've seen this problem with audio and graphics so for me to be able to help I'll need a screen shot and it never had anything to do with Bluetooth device I know it's confusing get me a screen shot for further help this is more than likely an audio issue since in safe mode there is no audio

well i was reading a lot about the iobluetoothhcicontroller problem on google and the wifi/bluetooth hacks, all seemed a bit too complicated for me.

i decided my next best bet was to re-do the installation process with mavericks and the new ram from gskill. i made a mavericks usb with unibeast and booted the hack up with it. the screen went to snow for about 45 seconds and i thought to myself "this is a failure". but then it came back to life and mavericks booted just fine. no -x bootflag needed.

i originally wanted mountain lion because i've read mavericks has a memory leak- but, i suppose that doesn't matter much if mavericks is the way to get this board goin. i haven't even started over clocking and the system info reads 3.9 i7 (this was true in safe mode on mountain lion too)

great. so moving forward. can boot right away into mavericks installation. next i will see what i can do with the bluetooth and wifi and over clocking. i am installing multi beast settings now. i got a warning that the kernel extension was not from a known vendor. also, i didn't know which intel network driver to install so i placed my bet on the newest v3.0.4. installing now, we'll see how this works...
