This is a functional OSX 10.8.4 installation in an i5 Intel NUC. Others may want to complete the issues below.

The build:

  • Intel® NUC Kit DC53427HYE (link)
  • Crucial m4 256GB mSATA SSD CT256M4SSD3 (link)
  • Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 PC3-12800 CL11 SODIMM 204-Pin CT2CP51264BF160B (link)
  • Intel Network Centrino WiFi Card Advanced-N 6235 Dual Band Bluetooth (link)
  • Asus VE228H 21.5-Inch Full-HD LED Monitor with Integrated Speakers (link)

NUC BIOS Settings:

  • Set to DEFAULT, then
  • UNCHECK - Intel Virtual Technology
  • UNCHECK - Intel VT for directed I/O (VT-d)

Unibeast Settings:

  • CHECK - Mac App Store Mountain Lion - 10.8
  • CHECK - Laptop Support

Installation Notes:

  • A reboot is required during installation - I found it necessary to use safe mode (-x)

Post-Installation (MultiBeast):

  • UserDSDT or DSDT-Free Installation
  • Drivers & Bootloaders | Disk | TRIM Enabler | 10.8.3+ TRIM Patch
  • Drivers & Bootloaders | Miscellaneous | FakeSMC v5.2.725
  • Drivers & Bootloaders | Miscellaneous | USB 3.0 - Universal
  • Drivers & Bootloaders | Network | Intel - hnak's AppleIntelE1000e ver2.4.14
  • Drivers & Bootloaders | System | Patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement
  • Drivers & Bootloaders | Bootloaders | Chimera v2.1.2 r2148
  • Customization | Boot Options | 1080p Display

Compromises:

  • Wireless Networking using the Intel Centrino isn't working. I'm using wired ethernet so this isn't a problem.
  • Audio over HDMI isn't working yet, but USB speakers work fine.

Notes:

  • I was able to run the App Store 10.8.4 updates with no difficulties.
  • "About this Mac" suggests the i5 NUC is a "Early 2008 Mac Pro"

Turboburst? I don't believe any of the current NUCs have turboboost enabled. The boxes are pretty small with limited cooling and ventilation.

I scanned through the Mactester writeup but I think he's using an i3 NUC - Completely different ...

Your NUC processor (Core i5-3427U) supports Turbo (2.8 GHz). See ML: Native Ivy Bridge CPU and GPU Power Management.
For HDMI audio, see ML: UEFI HDMI audio, no dsdt edits, use the NUC HDMI audio edits patch.
Change sysdef to MacMini6,1, install the ivy bridge SSDT, edit your dsdt for HDMI audio.
The result is native power management and HDMI audio.

If you want HDMI audio and don't care about power management, see ML: UEFI HDMI audio, no dsdt edits

woodp: Did you get your HDMI-audio working?
I just recieved my DC53427HYE and everthing is fine apart from audio though HDMI... quite needful for a mediacenter.
I tried several dsdt and ssdt editits and patches but still cant get it to work. If you got it do you mind to provide your SSDT or a way how you fixed it?

Thanks in advance!!

woodp: Did you get your HDMI-audio working?
Negative, but I have to admit I haven't been working on it either ... The HDMI monitor (Asus VE228H) speakers aren't high-fidelity and so I've been using an external set of USB speakers.

If you do get it working, I'd be interested in your settings! Thanks!

I received my NUC DC53427HYE last friday and finally everything works..only Audio over HDMI dont...
My Solution for this, using a mini Displayport to HDMI Adapter..

Turbo boost works with sysdef Macbook Pro 8.1 (or Mac Mini 5.1) and ssdtPRGen :) (with Mac Mini 6.1 or 6,2 sysdef iam getting P-State Stepper Error)..

Before i use ssdtPRGen my Geekbench Score (v2.2.3 64 Bit) was 4000 or so,
now i get a Score about 6100.. im very happy with this..

I upload my Extra folder... Maybe this helps someone..

Hi serquan,

yes I already came to that DisplayportAdaper idea... works for me,too. Seems to be a problem with the IDs but anyway...

That MBP8.1 definition and the ssdtPRGen is a good hint! Thanks for sharing!!

I will try and give a feedback...

And I just installed Mavericks! Works great.

Audio is no problem. I just use the SSDT linked to in the previous posts. I guess audio from the HDMI port would work by editing the registry, but a HDMI-display port adapter and a very short HDMI cable I already had, was the perfect length.

In fact, the NUC boots (without safe mode!) after installation. This makes me wonder what I actually need to install from Multibeast? Using the DSDT-free-preset, bricks the NUC (kernel panic related to AppleIntelCPUpowermanagment). Installing with the DSDT-free-preset and adding the patched AppleIntelCPUpowermanagment works great, though. Oh, and Ethernet does need the Intel Ethernet kext.

Thanks for this hint, serqan! My HemiMac does now run with an iMac 13.1 sysdef and turbo works fine. See here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/imac-mods/104625-mactester57s-hemimac-g4-15.html#post732497
